We revisit this EVERY off-season. The coaches are going to start who gives them the best chance to win, especially this new staff. Quit looking for conspiracy reasons as to why Nate's starting.

I'm really concerned about our specialty positions. Mostly kicker and punter. A lot of unproven players at those positions.

at kicker, it looks like we might have one guy kicking off and another doing the place kicking. Im not concerned about kickoffs, but any time you have a new place kicker, there is concern. Dimke graduated - nothing we can do about it. Lets just hope that our new kicker can be consistent inside the 30 yard line. Its missing those 29-35 yarders that kills me. |

As far as kickers I'm just going to miss the fact that I knew when we lined up for a FG with Dimke that it was probably going in. Now, I have to close my eyes and hope

Beckman hinted that there might be a bit of movement in the secondary. So let's look at ALE's projected three-deep.
CB: Terry Hawthorne (SR) / Eaton Spence (rs-FR) / Jevaris Little (FR) SS: Steve Hull (JR) / Earnest Thomas (rs-SO) / Ben Mathis (JR walkon) FS: Supo Sanni (SR) / Patrick Nixon-Youman (SR) / Tommy Davis (SR) CB: Justin Green (SR) / Jack Ramsey (SR) / V’Angelo Bentley (FR) The major concern is that Hull might be limited for a major portion of the season. If Hull can't go, is Thomas ready to start? How might the secondary be shuffled to get the best players on the field in a position to be successful? In the past, I've advocated playing Hawthorne at FS but given our depth at CB it is hard to see either Hawthorne or Green moving this season. Our CB depth consists of Ramsey, Spence and Bentley... none of whom have significant playing experience at CB. I like Bentley as a prospect, but he is probably going to need a year to get ready. So if they are going to make a move, the best option might be to play Sanni at strong safety. He is closer to Drew Frey (Banks' all-Big East SS at Cincy) in terms of size and athleticism than anyone else on our roster. But then who do you play at free safety? Tommy Davis was a starting safety at NIU two years ago, but only part-time starter last year. PNY? Try-hard kid who doesn't have the wheels after his injuries. I sure am glad the staff have been able to get commitments from a bunch of quality DB's! __________________ ONLY ORANGE! |
