Meyers was the man but this could take a program that is lost into something grand! Last edited by schnaurt; Sep 15, 2012 at 06:43 PM. Reason: It would be the best that we have seen since the Self days, respectively. |

I understand how D Jack, XRM, and Dee could play together as Dee, Deron, and Luther did with D Jack as the pure point that Deron.
Many might now ask, well what happens with Abrams. It's a guard heavy system that calls for 3 to 4 guys that can handle the ball well enough to play 15 to 20 minutes a game at a fast pace and not be a liability. |

I got to believe Groce is breathing some new life into the program. I know some seniors who are now considering grad school since they don't want to miss out on this team next year.

Anthony Barber to NC State, where does that leave Kansas looking for a PG? I'm worried that DJack is their top option now.

I still think we'd be darn luck to get EITHER XRM or DJ. We may be recruiting both of them but I'd be stone cold stunned if both were willing to come to Illinois in a class that already has Hill.
But we NEED one or the other desperately. __________________ "To forbid us anything is to make us have a mind for it." Michel Eyquem de Montaigne |

If we do somehow get DJ and XRM to go along with Nunn where would that leave us with the PF or C position? would we wait until 2014 to go after an elite big man? Sorry if this was mentioned earlier

didn't know if anyone had seen the updated ESPN 2013 class rankings.....ILLINI = 14 ....sky is the limit. Go get em Groce. It also reflected changes from Powell committment as well so I believe it is current.

I love these these new recruits don't get me wrong. We have a program changer in Nunn with his ties to Chicago obviously. Hill is kind of forgotten among all this buzz and is going to be a great player. Maverick is going to develop into a nice big man. I just want to remind everyone that we HAVE talented YOUNG players on the roster already. We need not forget about these guys. Alot can happen in 2-3 years. That said, I'm so excited about our program. I love our coach. He hasn't coached one minute of a Big ten game here at ILL, However he seems to be one of those people who players and people gravitate towards with his personality and drive. I love where our program is at. We have a bright future my friends with a coach who seems to be just as hungry (probably much much more) to get the ILLINI back to where it belongs.

Great news on Nunn! As others have mentioned it seems like this commit provides far more than just on the court benefits, many of which people were hoping for a KBD commit to satisfy. Landing KBD in ‘14 (for his ability as a player) would be awesome, but it seems like Nunn’s decision takes care of a lot of that ancillary stuff (namely, blazing a trail to stay home and commit to Groce's ILL). Way ahead of schedule.

This could rank up there with the elite class that never was due to the awful murder of Ben Wilson. Maybe Kendrick can wear 25 in his honor like other Simeon players. I believe we had the best team in the nation even despite that tragedy but had that not occurred we would have a NCAA championship in the Hall. Maybe this class can bring one where it really belongs.

A Jackson note to conclude the night...
The Illinois staff feels good about it, and so do a lot of other people (as you saw from Melvin Nunn...). ND is a bit worried... ...but you can never be sure with Demetrius Jackson. He likes to please everyone. He's that good of a kid... One of the reasons his recruitment has been so hard to read is because he doesn't say much, but when he does talk, he sort of tells everyone what they want him to tell them and says great things about everything/everyone. He's a master of the interview and recruiting game. So while no one really knows for sure... Illinois is in as good of a spot as they can be. Basketball wise, Illinois wins... starting from day 1 in a PG offense with talent coming in with you in your class and talent down the pipeline in '14 and '15. But is his heart in South Bend? We'll find out in the next week or two. __________________ If you die in an elevator, be sure to push the Up button. |
