Coaching Concerns

As for the offensive coaching staff, I thought Gerry DiNardo made a good point about the Illini staff on their preview show back in August. He noted how many of these coaches had never worked together before. How this wasn't Beckman bringing his Toledo staff - it was him assembling coaches from all over. DiNardo said it might take a year before the staff was comfortable with each other, or until Beckman was comfortable with his coordinators.

Apparently the “we’re not there yet” and “we’ll look at tape and get it fixed” from the Zook regime has been replaced with “we didn’t execute” for the Beckman regime.

The coaches and players have referred to lack of “execution” after both the ASU and LaTech debacles.

Gotta love coachspeak.

The opposite of "coach speak" seems to be "throwing players under the bus". Would you prefer Beckman to say "our secondary is awful and can't guard anybody"? or "this is the worst offensive line in college football"?

I'm sure that would go over well

I would rather Beckman stand up with some emotion and say that this is unacceptable at the University of Illinois and that every member of his staff, including himself needs to coach better and prepare better. I want him to admit that the preparation of this football team in these two losses has been unacceptable and the coaching staff owns that and is being held accountable for that and will without question correct it moving forward. I want to hear him say that he has higher standards than this for both his coaching staff and his players.

Basically, I would like to hear him own up to these two losses and the performance of this football team not with coach speak, but with a genuine sense of self accountability.

But from what I have seen so far, I do not think we will get that. I think we will get the generic coach speak 'we need to coach better, we need to prepare better, we need to execute better, etc... etc...'

Beckman: "I do want to give credit to an outstanding football team Saturday night." Calls La Tech "a champion."

Beckman: "If you have six turnovers, you're going to have problems, regardless of who you play."

Beckman said the back end of the defense played poorly, have to give help to corners in coverage.

Beckman: "The first hit that Nathan took was a big hit." Said he was "concerned" about NS. Felt it was best for team to take him out

Beckman: "Nathan Scheelhaase is our starting quarterback."

We dont have a choice for the most part.

That was in response to NS being our starting QB.

Beckman doesn't express any regrets about recruiting PSU players. "Game was developed for opportunity," provided that for players

Beckman said he regrets the story is still talked about but said he's glad to give a "young man" Ryan Nowicki an opportunity.

Beckman: talked with Bill O'Brien in Chicago and "we spoke." Said he "hopes" problem was resolved, said he hopes focus is on game

That about sums it up right there. I laughed out loud when I read it.

Are you serious? Tim Beckman has said blatantly that the way the team has performed is not acceptable and that they haven't played the way they need to, that includes the coaches.

Some of the stuff people nit-pick about it a little unnecessary.

He was asked specifically about ST so I'm not sure what you're getting at...

I would say the criticism has been pretty tame after losing 97-38 against the 2 quality teams we have played. The optimism in hoops recruiting has helped deflect some of the frustration but save for a few crazy fire Beckman posts he is being given quite a bit of slack

I agree, that's why I said "some"...as in disecting how specific he gets when placing blame.
