MELTCON 3 – 2013 Class set to wrap . . .

Word leaks from the DIA of a joint program with the Illinois Department of Corrections where convicts will be bused to Champaign to fill empty seats at football games. In response to human rights activists who have decried the move as “cruel and unusual”, one source stated “Look, they are already wearing orange, and nobody said prison was supposed to be fun.”

...

At U of I, we got rid of our hostile and abusive mascot. (OK, no one really wanted to, but we may as well use it to our advantage). At FSU, some clown dressed as an Indian rides around on horseback chucking spears. Looks like fun. Fun until some random Canadian five star basketball recruit inadvertently wins the javelin catch, that is. FSU – Hostile, Abusive, AND Deadly.

Whoa, Klee just said Illinois has some ground to make up for KBD. We've got a direct IllinoisLoyalty board against Klee situation here.

Interesting. Didn't see that coming. Not sure what that means wrt to Moore. Do we take him this weekend if he wants to commit? I think you have to.

I think you take Moore and move on. Don't wait around for Colbert to announce he is going somewhere else.

I just can't see any 5* or borderline 5* player committing to us before they see how the team will perform under Groce first. So, I don't agree with those who keep saying KBD is definitely ours. Unless Groce is a cheater, I don't expect any of those high calibre players to be Illinois lean as of now. They will want to see the product first, before becoming Illinois lean. JMO.

I agree. I think is Ben Moore now, unless he for some reason would rather go to Colorado State.

On the KBD front, I will stick with what the insiders are just about unanimously saying on this board as opposed to Klee saying we are behind. I think that is just his normal self being just a bit pessimistic. If we truly do need to make up some ground, I have no doubt as soon as 2013 recruiting is wrapped up, that will be priority one for Groce!

This is just a wild guess, but maybe Colbert decided to do this to force Illinois to get a commitment from Moore and not wait on him, this way he won't have to deal with the pressure of saying no to a coach who wants him.

Illinois has ground to make up with Keita Bates-Diop. One of the key factors - where will he play right away? That's something his circle is looking for. Purdue and Michigan are in a good place there. I don't like to claim any prospect is a must-get for Illinois, but he's a must-get, particularly after you've hired an assistant coach that previously coached in Bloomington-Normal. Final question, they want to see if Larry Austin Jr. is a lead guard. In college I think he needs the right system to be successful -- an up-and-down, fullcourt pressure system that can take advantage of his motor and athleticism.

I believe the staff will push for a commitment from Moore. The only caveat is if Moore himself wants to wait for CSU. But with McLaurin graduating after this year, it is too much of a risk to wait for Colbert without pushing a commitment from Moore, which may backfire and we end up losing both.

In the Loyalty version of a WWF Texas Bunkhouse Match, 2005squared boldly predicts with “150% certainty” that XRM will commit to Illinois on Saturday, and promises to “leave the board forever” if he is wrong. Which means he’ll likely be back next week posting under the secret identity of “Cubic2006”.
HEY!!!!!! Come on now!!!

Reading between the lines, I'd say Colbert isn't committing to the U of I and is going to hit up Seton Hall just to make sure Miami is the right decision for him. Looks like we will be getting some Benjamin Moore

Does Klee honestly believe that KBD wouldn't start or play right away at Illinois? A Top 20 recruit who can play the 3 and the 4? Lots of false rumors circulating this week on KBD that are not true.

I don't believe Klee on this one. The UofI is right there at the top of his list with Michigan and Purdue a close second.

By "wait" you mean "choose"? Not sure what he' be waiting for, he's visited and has an offer from CSU.

I've thought for a long time that Klee is a pot-stirrer who likes the attention he gets when he writes or says something that "riles the faithful."

How could anyone think that KBD wouldn't come to Illinois and start?

False rumors? Or just unfounded opinions?

No, by wait I mean wait to think about it. Most players will not necessarily commit on the spot even after taking all visits. Some need some time to contemplate their decision (e.g., available playing time, etc.). IIRC I saw some analyst(s) mentioning that Moore to UI is not a slam dunk as people think it is and has a strong relationship with CSU staff.

That's the only caveat for Moore, although I personally do expect him to commit this weekend. I can't see Moore passing UI for CSU. Now if waits a little and Colbert comes back from Seton Hall and announces for UI Monday morning... well.

But all signs point to the fact that Colbert to UI is pretty much dead and would have happened already. Especially knowing very well that Moore is on visit to UI this weekend.
