2013 Big Ten recruiting classes: A graphical representation

I used 247's composite rankings, which combine those from 247, Rivals, Scout, and ESPN. Each colored sliver represents a committed recruit..I've binned these by 50s, so there's some rounding going on.

Illinois: The Illini ran their class of 2013 commitment number to 19 with the addition of Plainwell, Mich., tight end Tyler White on Oct. 1. Illinois was the first school to offer White, but the 6-foot-5, 235-pound was starting to generate Division I looks after being under the radar for a majority of the process. White has all the tools to be an asset in the pass game and as a blocker for Tim Beckman's team. He is the second tight end commit for the Illini in 2013, joining Uniontown (Ohio) Green three-star Christian DiLauro.
Another interesting tidbit:

Quote:
Ohio State: The past week brought tough news for Ohio State quarterback commit J.T. Barrett of Wichita Falls (Tex.) Rider when an MRI revealed he had torn the ACL, MCL and meniscus in his knee from an injury suffered in last Friday's win over Brewer.
Ouch. It will be interesting to see how this kid bounces back. He's one of the top dual-threat QBs in the country. That's a tough injury as a running qb.

There was a concern about whether Kill could recruit at the B1G level. Early returns suggest there is some validity to that concern.

Is his health a significant factor in recruiting? Serious question.

I would have to imagine it factors in somewhat. It can't be a good thing on the recruiting trail.

Yep, doesn't matter if it's concurrent or not. IIRC Bo didn't cost us a scholarship because his pro contract paid for his education. Also we had recruited him as a QB out of HS though he ended up playing (briefly) as a DB.

Love the graphical representation of the recruits. Sort of use those (with some minor variations) and related that to actual B1G standings - LOTS of similarities.....

its alot easier to beat the really talented teams when you have as much talent, if you dont, you need a system like Boise or Wiscy where you can plug in a bunch of 3* guys that play exactly like you expect them to play.

We're getting some talented recruits and recruiting to a system where we can plug in those guys and have a system that could be very efficient in terms of recruiting to a system.

Wisconsin signs an average of three 4-star guys a year. Michigan State seems to be in the same range, but signed ten 4-star guys back in 2009 (Dantonio's second full recruiting class). If Beckman is to have similar results, it would be in the 2014 class. In 2010, they signed four 4-stars and one 5 star (Golston). FWIW, Bell was only a 2-star recruit.

System guys are great, but it does help to sign a few of the highly sought after players every year (including the 3-star players with really good offer lists).

That's the good thing about most of our 3*'s is that they have "solid" offers.

Have to win two games down the stretch or we are going to lose some players from this class.

I could see teams especially like PSU and other teams taking a long look over our current commitments and offering them if they havent already.

The kids that are currently committed to us- Beckman and the teams performance so far is putting them in a tough spot to either stay committed or to look elsewhere.

Wouldn't be surprised one bit if kids start visiting other schools.
