Im not sure who will be going but if KBD and Lyle want to come here I cant see Groce passing on Lyle.
A class with KBD and lyle would be unreal.

For all those discussing Lyle wanting to come here, were not even in his top 3 as of now.

Spot on. I would guess BTF is referring to Zabo. However, I'm sure you will begin to see a lot of new 2014 names pop up in the coming months.

I don't, but I've seen a few "stats based" posters on a couple other boards say Austin a:to stats and shooting % stats are better than zabo.

I've only seen highlights of both, but I know Austin would have an offer if the staff thought he could play PG.

So what is the scoop an Zabo? Shooter? Defense? Athletic? Handles? Rankings? etc. One poster implied he could not shoot? Any truth to this??

While we may not be in his top 3, do you insiders think we have a solid chance at moving up in his rankings or do you think he is a long shot. Personally I feel that he has incredible talent and I'd love to see Groce go all out for him, but thats just me.

I have wanted lyle for a while and i would never say never when it comes to this staff, but its going to be tough to jump the other schools on his list. Especially if cal gets involved

Not an insider, but I think that we are absolutely on the outside looking in right now on Lyle. It's clearly still a possibility, but the safe bet is IU for Lyle.

No one in their right mind attempts to make detailed statistical analyses of high school stats. (1) data are highly unreliable; (b) competition can vary substantially; and (3) we don't really know what they are being asked to do for their high school teams.

When it comes to high school player evaluations, it is all about watching them play.

The stats I've seen quoted have come from when Austin played for USA team and Zabo for Canada.

I agree with you and trust groce to know what PGs in particular will be best for him.

For an easy reference, this includes a link to all the data, and if you look at every 20, you see a difference.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/blog/?page_id=9865
That link talks about NBA which I conceded is much more likely in the first quartile or so. But I am talking about contribution in college. If you look at the 2009 rsci top 100 you can see there is no correlation between position and contribution after about the first 25.

MPG 26-50 51-75 76-100
Year 1 16.6 14.9 12.0
Year 2 18.8 14.0 15.5
Year 3 19.8 16.2 20.3

PPG 26-50 51-75 76-100
Year 1 5.9 4.9 3.9
Year 2 7.2 4.5 6.1
Year 3 7.9 6.2 7.9

That doesn't prove my point but I see very little correlation, at least in this year, between ranking and college contribution. Whatever correlation there is seems to diminish rapidly as years pass.

Relax, how many players has Mich St got from our state over the years? Shannon Brown, maybe J.Parker? They haven't taken many.

Exactly, if the kids we are pursuing aren't getting offers from elite programs that is a problem, not the fact that they are. We're not going to win every battle but with JG's track record I like our chances of going up against the big boys for Illinois' kids.
