I figured Illinois would drop no lower than 15th.

So let me get this straight:
We are 12-1 with wins over now ranked #21 Butler and #13 Gonzaga with our only loss being to #9 Missouri, yet that 1 loss dropped us from 10th all the way down to 15th. Looks like Illinois still has a lot to prove. |

This is a bigger drop than most teams would have with this loss. |

Our only loss is to #9 Missouri on a "neutral" court.
Gonzaga's only loss is to now #15 Illinois at home. Only thing I don't agree with on the new poll. |

Now that poll makes a lot more sense. In front of Gonzaga, didn't fall very far.

If I were a betting man, I wouldn't have bet one dollar at the beginning of the year that I could say at this point into the season: "Illinois is better than Florida, Gonzaga, Michigan State, North Carolina, and Kentucky."

There is a big gap between # of votes Illinois got, and # of votes the Zags got.
Must be tough for Wyoming too. They're 12-0, beat a ranked Colorado team on the road, and still haven't cracked the top 25. They weren't even second or third in other teams that received votes! Last edited by trevdv; Dec 24, 2012 at 11:34 AM. |

About where we should be as far as the AP goes. Win the next two and be back in the top ten. Need DJ to find his shot or play JP more.

I think you mean JB, but yes, you're right. A win over Auburn will not move us much in the rankings, but a win over Ohio State would.

Technically Illinois will need to win the next 3. We play 1 game this week and that could jump us up a spot with a win. Then the next week we have 2 games. We would have to win both to move back up into the top 10.

Coaches poll is a joke. Why would we be put behind the Zags? And drop 5 spots? Ridiculous. AP poll is much better.

AP poll is better coaches are a joke. bottom line there are a lot of illini HATERS out there. Then to think they don't consider us a house hold name so yeah to them we aren't suppoes to be in the conversation of being a top tier team.

The coaches poll doesn't even really make sense. Every coach is going to be biased towards his own team, especially if his team is a top 10 caliber one. It'd be like asking a bunch of Illinois fans to pick their favorite B1G teams; pretty sure Indiana would be pretty low on that list, despite them being the 5th best team in the nation.

PS - I'm not hating on the coaches poll because we dropped five spots in it, I'm just overall beefing on its pointlessness. |
