Yep. I was thinking the exact same thing this morning. You only get one shot to make a first impression.

its not too late, but if our problems were 50% coaching and 50% players, we simply wasted alot of time and effort .
TB can still get the ship headed in the right direction and at the right speed, but boy, what a way to start. He needs to manage the perception of his performance with three groups: 1. his employers 2. his players and recruits 3. the fans the employers will most likely give him two more years provided real objective progress is made on the field. Another year like last year and I have my doubts the players and recruits need to buy in to his style and schemes and if they do, and he can recruit at an even higher level, the future will be bright the fans are going to be the toughest. His honeymoon ended with the ASU game. He wasted his whole first year building up any goodwill with the fandom , and the fans are going to be the toughest to win back over. We need to put up 24-28 points a game and allow our defense a chance to play agressive, and that means we will occasionally give up a score when we are unlucky. We need a QB who can throw the ball more than 8 yards downfield. This is our biggest problem right now. |

Anytime an Illini ends up in the NFL it's good...glad he's with Khan and that he connected with colleagues from Seahawks staff...glad he will get more time with his youngsters..they are at a tough age
Sad he's not here....there was something right about a Butkus being on the sidelines....except for the part where it completely didnt work out..HA!...Thomas and Beckman were totally professional with a tough circumstance and that is hopeful.... Go illini and Go Jags...my new second favorite NFL team |

I think this will be great for him. Doesn't have to travel/recruit with young kids, and most of his training was in the NFL.

I was more looking at it in terms of the fact that he has limited time as an OL coach in the NFL and is now taking over a piss-poor offensive unit.

He is the assistant OL coach. Everyone has to start somewhere.

An Offensive Line coach needs an assistant ? How much work can there be coaching a line that it requires assistance ? Sounds like just a title to me.

You have a dozen athletes, some paid $mi lions, and yes it is worth having a couple of coaches to give them as much coaching as possible. Every tdam has an asst ol coach.

Not to mention former OL Coach Gilbert is an assistant OL coach for the Colts, so yes the NFL needs assistant coaches there

Story in Miami paper that two of Ron Turner's players at FIU took recruit to a strip club. They're riled up down there.

So, maybe the coach didn't know we were losing him to UNC. Still no replacement?
