Well the good news is that if he was scared of facing competition for a starting job...BP and DJ gave him a show tonight that just might make him change his mind

Well i would hope he doesn't put an end to this long process based on last night's games.

I did have a dream last night that Beal committed to Illinois, maybe its a sign?

Perhaps Beal's decision will start the dominoes falling. Most obvious impact is on Randle. If not, we may not see any new 11 commitments until next spring or summer.

One way or another, I think his decision breaks the logjam. Guys such as Chasson Randle and Devin Langford are directly affected by his choice, and things should fall into place relatively quickly no matter what he decides.

The timing of that fizzle couldn't have been worse. Although, if he's really as worried about our guard depth as we've heard, the way DJ and BP played couldn't have scared him much.

But isn't it the case that Randle is leaning harder toward Purdue and away from Illinois week by week? Maybe Beal's choice will impact him, but he hasn't sounded interested in Illinois for quite some time.

One loss has no bearing. I am sure that he's had his mind made up for atleast a week or two.

Is he doing a press conference? Do we know a time? I would think that if it's down to us and Florida, we have the advantage being close to home and his family. I thought KU was the favorite? I wonder who he has had contact with in the last week or so.

FWIW, he sent word of his pending announcement before either the MSU game or our game started last night. I think he had his mind made up long before we crashed and burned on the all-but-inaccessible HoopsTV feed. We have reasons to worry about his choice, but last night's games do not count as a reason to worry.

I think that if Brad Beal chooses to go elsewhere, Devin Langford will almost immediately get a UI offer. Then it will be a Griffey/Cooley situation between Chasson Randle and Devin Langford for a slot in the class of 2011. I think we'll hold another ride for a big (e.g., Miller, Shaw, Siakam, etc.) and hold another for Sam Thompson, whenever he chooses to decide.

BTW, LOL at Duke fans, who convinced themselves that they had the inside track on Brad Beal. Just as they convinced themselves that Harrison Barnes was a lock for Duke. in fact, I just went over to their Scout board and they STILL think he's going to pick Kansas if he doesn't go to Duke. A Florida poster showed up to politely say that it's pretty clearly down to Florida and Illinois, but the Dookies would have none of it. They think only Kansas and North Carolina can get the recruits that Duke wants. Their fan base is absolutely delusional. For a team that can't EVER get out of the sweet sixteen these days, they really still believe that the college basketball universe consists only of North Carolina, Kansas, Kentucky, and Duke.

He is definitely interested in Illinois based on comments both from his HS coach and his AAU coach. To say "he" hasn't sounded interested in Illinois in weeks is not the case. Purdue may be a favorite--i don't know and have not read anything definitive that verifies that-- but even if it is the case, it can change instantly (Egwu changed his mind twice in the last week), and to believe that Illinois doesn't have a legitimate shot is incorrect, especially if Beal does not select the UI. His recruitment is still up for grabs with a long way to go.

Judge Yates- You always have a great grasp on all things Illini. Is KU out of the picture? Is it truly down to us and Florida or do KU, Purdue, etc. still have a chance? I like our chances if it's down to us and Florida.

There is nothing formal that it's Florida and us. Beal has been as closely guarded in his thinking as anyone and he has been exceedingly careful to give no indications.

I thought, frankly, it would be Kansas. Now it looks like it may be Florida.

If what Yates thinks about Randle is correct, he may re-enter the picture if Beal chooses someone other than Illinois. I thought we had no chance with Beal, then revised my forecast, and now fear he's gone. If he is, Randle is a very nice "fall back", but I'm not confident about him. Maybe Langford will be the best option.

Honestly, I've heard from too many people that it's down to us and Florida to think anything else, but Fever is right that it's not at all clear where this is going. The basic question seems to be geography (CU is much closer to his family) versus running mate (Austin Rivers, the number-one point guard in the country and his friend, is committed to Florida). Kansas doesn't fit into that equation, but take that simply FWIW.

Of course, if BB choses another school, we will all be disapointed. However, the nice thing about his decision coming Monday is that it is still 2009. Maybe we don't end up with Beal, Randle or Langford, but it is nice having names like that as "fall back" plans and probably some that have yet to explode onto the scene as seems to happen every year.
Having said that, I'm hoping for an early Christmas present from Mr. Beal.

CY- do we know anything about how he feels about Tracy Abrams, we know that Austin Rivers is his boy but Tracy higly regarded too and by the time he gets to campus DJ would have developed into a more than capable running mate along with the other wings and guards he should fit right in. I have a very good feeling its Illinois.
