So, who's going to be on staff? And where will Jerrance Howard end up?

For all that is right and just in the world, please do not let JH go to Kansas

think he was in New Orleans for the Final Four. They usually have some big coaches convention at the same time as the Final Four.

Hmm. On second thought I shouldn't have put the New Orleans location. Ok, I think it means that Ryan Baker heard that Jerrance & Groce would meet very soon in CU. Ryan Baker is in New Orleans now. No doubt Howard will head to New Orleans soon, not sure if he's there yet or not. Fwiw this morning Klee thought Howard would be at the Groce presser, so sounds like it was a last-moment decision not to attend on Howard's part.

This. Pretty sure Mike Thomas is flying out early tomorrow to New Orleans, also.

I don't really like the prospect of us competing with JH and KU for Chicago kids.
But I'll understand if Groce has his own guys. |

I might puke if Jerrance goes to Kansas. I'd be happy for him since I love the guy as a person and a coach, but man that would hurt to see.

Paul Klee on WDWS now.
Sez it's really, really unlikely that Jerrance Howard will remain with Illinois. Howard is heading to New Orleans tomorrow morning. |

I hope we spare no cost to keep Jerrance around.
I won't blame Jerrance should he choose to leave, I will be PO'd if he's encouraged to... |

Just a thought, but since Oden had a lot of good things to say about Groce do you think he could wind up on the staff at some point? I'm not suggesting as an assistant by any means, but in some other capacity. It looks like his NBA career is over most likely, and he'd be a good tutor to future bigs and have more cache than a Paulus or Jerry Mac who are on current staffs?

Paul Klee on WDWS-
Feels Groce is going to fill out the staff with guys he knows, guys he's familiar with. Mentioned the following as possible additions to the staff- # Jamal Walker # Jeff Boals # Travis Steele Doesn't expect Simeon coach Robert Smith to be on staff. |

Because it would probably be bad form to crash the JG press conference if he wasn't sure about being part of the staff. Could get awkward, especially when MT and JG were going to be asked questions about JH's status.
I think that it was the classy move for JH to stand down and let JG have his moment without the "is JH staying or going?" drama. Now it could mean that JH already has another gig lined up; time will tell. __________________ Here's Fletch, he's actually 6'5", with the afro 6'9", a pretty good dribbler... |
