Dan, do you know if Illinois will be wearing new uniforms this season? Or will they still have the ones they had last year that they debuted halfway through the previous season? Just wondering - with a new coach and all. Thanks.

They usually come up with new variations of the old stuff to start each season. |

Thanks guys - I don't really like the current uniforms and they certainly haven't brought good luck, that's for sure. But, when you're dealing with Nike I guess I should just be glad that the uniforms aren't all Oregon-like.

I'd hoping for a rebranding amongst all sports next spring/summer like Michigan State did a few years back.

While they're at it, please put the names on the back of the jerseys, too.

it may be urban legend, but i believe the yankees of the 30's and 40's either took the names off their jerseys, or never put them on in the first place, because they were so good they felt you knew, or should know, who they were. i realize illinois is not the yankees of college basketball, but i like that attitude. anyways, thanks for the jersey # update. . . |

Haven't we had our names back on the jerseys for a couple of years now?

Just gonna say that I hate 24 as a basketball number. I'm even a fan of Kobe...just hate that number.

also, as for the yankees, i guess i was off just a bit on the years, but if you google 'yankess no jersey names' or some similar iteration, it is basically the same reason and one i had not considered: teamwork; i.e., no one player is bigger than the team. anyways, i am fine with no names on the backs of our jerseys. |

Regarding the uniforms, the version worn through the end of last season is 1.5 years old. Prior to Nike switching our team to this version they had released it to the "Elite" teams during the NCAA tourny prior.
This past season Nike did it again with the "Elite" teams that have won a NCAA title. They basically created an all gray alternate with the school colors used as the trim. I don't see this being implemented with the rest of the Nike schools, but this summer's USAB Olympic uniforms could provide a sneak peak of what we may see in the near future. __________________ ![]() |
