Win by 17 in opener. Not bad. I hope they were holding back some things on offense

I do believe the offense will get better next week. They'll work on a lot and develop more weapons. This was just a test to see how everything would go. ONe week to iron it out more

I think they are. It was an extremely conservative 2nd half.

We'll take it, though.

1-0!

Impressed by the performance of the defense and Jon Davis was a pleasant surprise coming out of the backfield. I don't remember that last time a TE to RB transition made sense. Other than that, the offense has some work to do. Any news on NS' ankle?

I think NS will be fine, just held him out as a precaution.

Hey, ya know what, our offense stunk in the 2nd half but I think we all see how important Nathan is to this team.

Our offense looked decent at the very least in the first half with him.

Defense, solid as hell.

Hopefully Nate will be fine going forward and if he is then I'm ecstatic about this season going forward.

The good - our defense. The bad - attendance (under 45,000). The ugly - our offense. Is it too late for Aaron Bailey to enroll early and play this season? We at least need a dependable back-up, and we may even need a starter if NS can't go.

I hope so. We need that kid. He made good, decisive throws today that showed his progression as a passer.

Solid, solid defense. Offense was boring to watch besides the first TD early, but we'll take a W. Didn't show much offensively to ASU which is good, maybe we have more than a read option in our playbook. Go Illini!

2nd half offense was sluggish obviously but i thought the line protected the passer fairly well. Our defensive was absolutely stifling. Good way to open against a solid team

That's what happens when your QB who was born to run a spread offense is out for the entire 2nd half.

The offense looked fine in the first half with Nate.

Oh yeah, that's the other thing, I thought the OL played VERY well. Nate had all kinds of time back there on most plays and we had some good holes for our running game.

One thing, I'm affraid Reilly may not see the field as a starter. I think once Nate leaves, Bailey will take over. It just doesn't seem like Reilly has progressed much. He's obviously still only a true soph. and I hope he improves and takes over as the starter when it's his time though.

Lets hope Nate will be ok. It's going to get worse on offense if he's out for a while. Defense was great. WMU are not as strong as they have been in the past, but still a dangerous team and Illinois held them to 7 points.

Hawthorne didn't look so hot, but I thought the safeties looked good.

My boy ET-3 got himself a pick, hopefully he stays a starter and Hull takes over for PNY

Offense... we have to stop with this inside read option crap. It's not going to work, it didn't work last year either

Beckman on ESPNU....thinks Sheelhaase will be fine...team has to continue to learn to play 4 Quarters of Football on both sides of the ball but he's proud of the effort today

Agreed on oline, particularly on 3rd down. They were very good and picked up blitzers. Overall this was a very positive first game with new staff

Good to hear, let's hope so. A lot of times over the last 7 years when we heard Zook say a player would be okay it probably meant they were hurt pretty bad. Let's hope Beckman is a little more honest.

I thought the offense looked fine the first 2 drives. Not so much after that.
