Tim Beckmam said Nathan Scheelhaase is "almost 100%". Stopped short of naming a starter vs. LA Tech, but I'd fully expect him to start.

All this talk of moving defensive players to offense...are there any defensive linemen that can play on the offensive line?

Expect #illini QB Scheelhaase to start. Beckman said he's almost 100 percent.

Beckman can go to Urbana-Champaign Centennial game Friday. (His son is a frosh QB). But NCAA says he can take #illini with him.

I'm assuming he meant the Illini can't go?

Yeah, Beckman wanted to take the team to the Urbana game but was denied. (Beckman can attend the game to watch his son without the team though)

So are they talking about moving Hull permanently to WR because his shoulder just can't take the impact of making tackles? I suppose this makes sense, though that leaves us with even less depth at S next year (not that he would have contributed much with a bum shoulder).

They already moved O'Connor to OL but (a) we don't have any DTs to spare; and (b) we don't have any DEs big enough to play OL.

If Supo returns healthy i feel like Him and Thomas are going to be just fine at the Safety position....

Thomas has really stepped up his game this year and has been playing very well

but the issue is next year who will be our starting Safeties???

Thomas will more then likely take on one spot but if we move Hull to WR who is the guy at the other spot???

North?? Barton??

only ppl we have returning to safety are: Thomas, North, Barton (Hull to WR)

slim pickinins

That was mostly tongue in cheek showing my displeasure with our OL play so far this year.

It isn't a bad idea. In fact, many teams recruit extra DTs and DE with the intent of turning them into athletic OL. Unfortunately, we haven't recruited very well on the DL for the past several years so there isn't any extra talent to convert.

Just another highlight of the Ron Zook express the last few years.

And another illustration of why Thomas had no choice but to replace Zook. Recruiting never really recovered from the 2008 failure and 2009 disaster. At least a new coach can sell a fresh start.

I actually think moving Hull to WR would be a great idea. He was really impressing there from what I remember before we had to move him to S. He, Davis, Lankford, Millines (if he can ever stay healthy, big if) could provide at least a DECENT core of WR's next year to start with.

Hull would certainly provide some depth at WR and it is pretty clear by now that he can't hold up to the physical pounding inherent in the S position. If I remember correctly, Hull was in the top-6 at WR as a RS-freshman. That doesn't scream "impact WR", but like you I remember him looking promising.

The only problem is that if Hull can't play S, a very thin position becomes even thinner. The only real solution is for Beckman et al. to go out and recruit a bunch of athletes to restock the secondary and WR positions. Between DBs, fast ATH, and WR, we currently have 7 commitments for 2013. That will help.

I was going to say he has already kind of done that this year. I would say 5 of those 7 are capable of playing safety (Dawson, Day, Jones, Kelly and Mosely).

Nice thing too is that of all our recruits, a few of those guys listed have pretty good offer lists, so they might be ready to play right away.

Dawson- CB or S
Day- CB/S/WR
Jones- S or Star LB
Kelly- S or Star LB
Mosley- CB or WR
Cazley- CB or S

all this is my opinion of where they could be best at but i feel like Jones and Kelly could both beef up the Safety position- both have similar styles of play ( both also remind me of Earnest Thomas actually) one could be placed at the Star LB spot since we will only have Fuller and BJ Bello at that position after this year

Dawson looks to be a FS or a CB at best hes 6'2 with long frame and has great speed.

Day is a guy who could play a handful of spots with all his athletic ability (WR/CB/S) so hes a guy who after we find spots for everyone else he could step into the spot where we are lacking the least and he could be playing early as well....

Mosley is a guy who I would like him to start at CB and end at CB due to his prototype size speed and ball skills he could be a great CB( pair him up with the Frosh Bentley who's shown he can compete and we got a good 1-2 cb of the future)

Cazley is a guy who i see on film and i could see him being kinda the same as PNY....same size and ability could see Cazley being a little more athletic ( due to the PNY injuries hes had set him back a lot)

I could see moving Hull to WR, he isn't a good safety. If it's strictly because it's a better position for him then that is great. But...if it is because they are worried about his tackling then will he be able to block effectively?

He's actually a solid safety. Not great but very solid.

And tackling has absolutely NOTHING to do with blocking.

Since illinihq hasn't posted it.

I haven't listened to it yet but Klee and "illini senior" Trent Meacham are on it. I thought Trent had his degree.
