Will the Orange and Blue Scrimmage be televised or on the radio?

Will definitely be on the radio, won't be televised, may be streamed on line. Not showing a streaming feed on fightingillini.com, but IIRC the same thing happened last year and it was available by game time. Also if you look in the archives for last season, there is a streaming feed. Have to subscribe @ $9.99/mo, of course.

They do what they think is best, but I really wish they would just open this thing up to the public free of charge. Charging $10 to watch the team scrimmage when we are coming off a very difficult 6 year stretch and a particularly disappointing season? Nope.

One bonus for this season is that this scrimmage will be the only chance to see Ravonte Rice play. That should be fun.

Heck, I don't know why they can put it on BTN, even if they have to delay it.
Charging 10 bucks for this doesn't sit well with me. How many people will show up? It will generate, what, maybe $20,000? Will 2,000 people pay to see a glorified practice? Why not turn away the cash, make it free and either air it or stream it? IL sports -- even basketball -- needs some positive energy and good will right now. This doesn't strike me as a step toward achieving that. Maybe some of the smarter folks here can poke holes in my flawed logic. __________________ "The freight train is moving. But you are right. They should do something different to create more goodwill. We like going to this event because the sign autographs after the scrimmage. Maybe they could do more to market that angle. |

Lat year it was streamed on the web, not sure if it was free or not. Looks like you can watch it thru the all access on fightingillini.com. There is a "watch " button on the next event O&B. Since I live in MA I watch thru that when I need to.

I'm not trying to beat a dead horse here (
) but just to drive home my point further, if my family of 3 went...![]() Come on. ![]() I get it. No need to jump me. Just don't go if you don't agree with the pricing. I'm not b****ing and moaning. I'm just amazed the tickets are essentially $17. __________________ "The freight train is moving. Either jump on or get off." - John Groce |

The biggest thing I want to see is the players PLAYING basketball. I want to see intensity, but the players need to be relaxed and having fun too. Don't think too much, just get out there and play. If I see that I will be happy.

The BTN owns the broadcast rights. As I stated in a thread on the other site, the DIA needs to !!!!! and moan and get the exhibition games put on cable. But then again, our performance over the past few years does not put us in a position of power in those talks.

I agree, jackman. It may sound silly, especially considering it is just a team scrimmage, but the #1 thing I will be looking at is body language.
The basketball stuff will be interesting, mostly just to see which players have made strides, but I am hoping to see obvious changes in their mental approach. I hate to keep going back to it -- but it's so true and let's be honest, the dude is good -- but one of the first things I remember about Self when he first got here was how much and how early he started talking about body language. I was only about 25 at the time and wasn't as observant to those sort of things, but it didn't take me long to understand completely just what he was talking about and how important it is. And he changed it. He didn't just change the basketball culture, he changed the mental aspect of the basketball team. You gotta have talent. Obviously. But beyond that you have to have a coach who is confident, who shows it to his players, and has the ability to impart that confidence toward his players. That's based in trust and faith. When the coach knows exactly what he wants and expects and the players see it and buy into it that's when you have a chance to be really good, or at the least give yourself a chance to succeed. Sorry to go all Tony Robbins on everyone. I just genuinely believe it is a huge -- huge -- part of success or failure in college basketball and it's something that doesn't seem to be addressed enough and enough importance isn't placed on it when you hear announcers and analysts talking about players and teams. It applies to all things, really, but I don't want to get too deep.

If that is indeed the case, it seems crazy to me the scrimmage of all B1G teams would not be aired on BTN, even if they are not aired live. Put them on late at night when they don't have much else to air anyway. As long as a team is okay having it aired, put the damned things on TV so we can watch.
