Basketball might take the Illini forward somewhere to make a few bucks, and he plans to explore the possibilities. But since his first visit with a personal trainer as a freshman at Lafayette High, the science of human movement has consumed Griffey with an intensity rivaling his favorite sport.

"I would go work out every day and could always see myself doing something like that," he said. "When it came to choosing a major, that's what I wanted to do. I do a lot of talking with our strength coaches and ask why we're doing something. When I went to my trainer, he'd always have to tell me why because he knew I'd ask."

Let's get a win in STL for this kid. Can't have him go 0-for-Braggin Rights.

Great article on a very deserving young man. He is a fantastic representative of the University of Illinois. His hard work ethic both in the classroom and on the court are a direct reflection of positive parenting. So glad to see Coach Groce and his staff connecting with Tyler, enabling him to meet his full potential. Hope Tyler can achieve all of his goals, both individually and as an integral part of this team. Continue to keep this momentum going, Tyler. Illini Nation is proud of you

Good luck - I lived in St. Louis for 5 yrs working alongside a bunch of Mizzou grads - so I know how that can be if things go the wrong way. Maybe you can get them to double the payoff if Tyler hits the winning three.

My boss is from St. Louis and a Mizzou fan, so we have a bet for lunch. I am glad for Griffey. Hopefully he can go to Europe and make a few bucks then come back and find the job he really wants. Maybe he can come back to the Illini in some capacity.

Hey Griffster, you aren't by chance driving any other people around on weekends looking for games are you. Really hoping that you are, there is a saying that says the younger ones learn from the older ones and just seem to be better because of it.

This weekend.. two today and taking his team of little guys to ILL for Sunday's game.. but we managed to scrape together two games in Champaign for them before the 5pm start.

He is, and players that work hard for four-five years to have a special final year are my favorite players.

Just a few like him off the top of my head:

Chet Frazier
Trent Meacham
Marcus Arnold (especially after his broken nose)
Warcat
Rich McBride
Calvin Brock

It's easy for me to cheer for these kinds of Illini.

CG, great to see you on IL. It's nice to see how well Tyler and the Illini are doing this season. You guys have been so patient the past few years, it must make it really special when things come together like they have this season.
