Thought since today is the day that the NHL returns, I would give some of us something to talk about to get our mind off of the Illini for a little bit. Some notable games today include:

Chicago at Los Angeles
New York Rangers at Boston
Pittsburgh at Philadelphia
Washington at Tampa Bay
Detroit at St. Louis

This season is going to be interesting given the tight schedule, but should be exciting because of that fact. Every game counts!

My Hawks blew out the Stanley Cup champs earlier this afternoon! Hossa with 2 goals and an assist.

And the Dead Wings lost 6-0. What a great day!

I'm not sure if it's more of the Blues looking good or Detroit looking bad. Detroit lost 2 of their top 4 defensemen from last season.

They looked good last night. Good "D", and good goaltending, which we knew. But now
have some offense as well. Hawks looked good. I expect them to contend as well.

I was at the Blues opener on Saturday. Detroit looked pretty terrible most of the game. They got off very few shots on goal, few of which were quality. That said, the Blues looked tough Saturday night and today against Nashville. Tarasenko looks ultra smooth for a rookie.

Big win for the Hawks. It wasn't as close as the 3-2 final would suggest.

How do you figure? St. Louis out-shot Chicago 34-27, it's not like the game was completely dominated in every aspect of the game by the Hawks. They just found the back of the net more often through the first 2 periods. It's not like we got our 2nd goal in the final seconds. There was 5 minutes left. My 2 cents.

My thoughts exactly!

We don't have back-to-back home games until mid-February, and start a string of 7+ road games next week.

If refs hadnt prematuraly blown their whistle in 2nd period gsme wouldve been tied.
Hawks are good and they won tonite. Expect a different result when they come to
St. Louis.

There's a big difference between shots and quality chances. The Hawks had a half dozen odd-man rushes in the first period, and easily could have had 3 or 4 goals in that period alone.

Hawks dominated the first period. After that the rest of the game was basically a wash.

Watched it last night. Great game. Elliott saved the Blues from being down by at least 3 goals in the first period. Second period was even. Blues won the third period, especially the last 10 minutes. Crawford saved the Hawks during that time.

Will be fun to see what happens with the division the rest of the way.
