The men finished second to Wisconsin, but they choked away the title.
They were only 1.5 points behind with the 4x400 relay to go. They had the best time coming in and basically just needed to finish the race to win. Instead, they got a DNF and Wisconsin finished 8th for one point and the win.

Gonna look past the men. It sounds like it was in hand, but asking for more than a 1-2 punch just feels greedy.

Great weekend. Track and Field is once again alive and well at the U of I. I go back to the Craig Virgin days. The Illini were smart bringing Buford-Bailey in as head coach. Her sprinters are outstanding and she has found good assistant coaches for the field events.
The women's win was not a big surprise. The Men's result was however. They came in about the 6th best team. Too bad the 400 relay team had a mishap. They probably would have won the event and therefore won the Big Ten. Turk is doing a great job. Especially considering the all american Riley has graduated. I look forward to the outdoor season. |
