Statue of the Galloping Ghost-busting?

(It doesn't quite work, but it's kind of close.)

I was looking on the Internet for photos last night--nothing.

Can't wait to see it mounted by the stadium.

How about we all agree NOT to bump this thread until there is actually something to see.

Drove by the site today, the foundation of the statue has been poured and the base set in place, not much to look at with all the frame boards fastened to it. Once this is removed I'll snap a photo of it.

It's looking good. I love how they're piquing our interest and showing us nothing of the statue itself. I can't wait for the unveiling. It will, I'm sure, be mounted under a tarp so that it can't be seen until it's permanently placed. Has an official christening date been set? I assume it will be prior to a major game, most likely Homecoming.

It's supposed to be there for the first game I believe.

According to a Supinie article here, the statue will be delivered a week before the Sept 12 home opener.

Grange statue to be unveiled before Illini's home opener

The statue will be installed Sept. 8 or 9, days before the Illini’s home opener against Illinois State on Sept. 12.

“It’s the final item to complete the stadium project as we know it,” said Illinois associate athletics director Warren Hood, who oversaw the stadium renovation. “There will be some landscaping around the base, and a new wrought-iron fence will go up on the west side before the season.”

Wrong answer. Re-do the horseshoe.

I know, that'll be a separate project, but still. Don't rest on your laurels now. With a re-done horseshoe and perhaps that "grand south entrance" that was considered, Memorial will be an even more amazing stadium than it already is.

Nobody's resting on their laurels. He's merely noting this is the last step in the most recent renovation project. Projects like that are great, but the funds have to be there first, and, frankly, there are higher priority projects than making Memorial Stadium "even more amazing".

Obviously the funds have to be there first; I wasn't implying that stadium renovation projects and money grow on trees. But it is easy to pat yourself on the back after a project like this and think that the work is done.

And I don't think that stadium renovation projects are at the top of the priority list, or should be, but let's take a look at where we are here:

"Fighting Illini Forums > Sports > Fighting Illini Football"
This isn't exactly a "set the university's budget priority" discussion.

A guy can dream, right?

Sure, dream on, but don't waggle a finger at the project director. The fact is, he's done a fantastic job and the renovation is terrific. Still, there's no evidence he's patting himself on the back. He's noting the Grange statue is the final step in this round of renovations. IMO, he's fully entitled to note the excellence of the work. Why not enjoy what's been accomplished for a short time before immediately calling for more? I actually like the nearly lost art of delayed gratification. A beautiful job is hardly done before people begin clamoring for more. It's in the category of "what have you done for me lately" thinking.

Who wouldn't be? It fits the stadium design motif and the Grange statue to a T.

Who's waggling a finger at anyone? I think he did a great job with the latest renovation...
