Good chart, bombayIllini.
Illinois recruiting managed to essentially fall out of the basement this year. They need to figure this out and quick. As others have said, there's risk of a big fall off after 2020/2021 seasons. Lovie pulled himself out of the fire this year with getting 6 wins...
Keep in mind that last weekend's games were the following match ups:
#2 LSU vs. #4 Georgia
#1 OSU vs. #8 Wisconsin
#6 Oklahoma vs. #7 Baylor
#5 Utah vs. #14 Oregon
#3 Clemson vs. #23 Virginia
The Group of 5 winner was essentially a play in game for:
#17 Memphis vs. #20 Cincinnati
Here's what an 8 team play off might look like:

#2 OSU vs. #7 Baylor (at large selection)
#3 Clemson vs. #6 Oregon

I don't think for a minute that the committee members *rely* on media to establish their opinions. That makes no sense. These are football people; former coaches, players, administrators, etc. You think Barry Alvarez relied on the...
There is nothing about LSU's body of work or play on the field that would reconcile with "very avg college football team". They won their conference, were impressive doing, and are rightly recognized with a spot in the CFP. I don't really think it matters whether their #1 or #2 or whatever...
No need to go to an 8 team model. Really can’t think of any team 5+ who’d have an argument for having gotten screwed. Over a 3 month regular season and round of conference championships, it’s clear there are 3 elite teams, then everybody else.
Yep, Wisconsin dropped from #4 in 2017, when it lost to a lower ranked Ohio State. And yes, Iowa was dropped from #4 when it lost to....#5 MSU in 2015. But neither of those apply here.
Should all teams hold serve (big assumption), and #4 Georgia lose to #1 LSU is the SEC championship game...
