Well after some dominoes have fallen, I like our chances in adding Mike Leake. I think he made around 10 mil last year, I think we can get him in here for a few years between 10-13 mil per year. I do worry about some other teams driving that price up though, I don't think the D'backs or Giants are out of the picture for him.

I'm glad it seems we have passed on the Cueto sweepstakes. While a tremendous pitcher, his arm scares the bejesus out of me and he has a tenuous past with us.

Should we get Leake, I like a rotation of Wainwright, CMart, Garcia, Wacha, Leake.

Anyone hear anything of the Iwakuma from Seattle? I think he is up for free agency, but can't remember. I have always like him. He is a severe ground ball pitcher if memory serves right, which would play perfect for our defense. I've always felt this guy was underrated. He is probably a little older, being he came from Japan, but definitely worth a look if available.

Iwakuma is a free agent. My impression is that he would't mind re-signing with the Mariners. But I'm sure he that would accept an offer he couldn't refuse from some other team, including the Cardinals.

I didn't believe the Cards would make a splash in free agency. Then I read all of the comments from Mo and Dewitt and thought, "Yes. They are serious about upgrades".

At first I was impressed with being runner up for Price but upon further review it was a bit lame. Below Kershaw's annual value. The hope was that people will take less just to be a Cardinal.

Mo's comments today are how he's happy with our young pitchers competing for the 5th spot. (I actually am too)

What bothers me though was his comment expecting more production from first base. More isn't enough. We need much improved.

Also read where he won't rob from the future to pay Heyward.

Mo is acting like our roster is set without a Heyward or an expensive bat.

Must mean Cards are about to do something big.

I am fine if they overpay for Heyward by 4 or 5 million. I would much rather waste a little money than have to give up prospects to get an impact guy

Just get it done Mo

Good deal. Basically went this route instead of paying 60 million for Zobrist

Ken Rosenthal reporting the Cardinals assume $26 million of the $35 million contract for Gyorko.

I'm sorry, but why would anyone ever think that? That's beyond ridiculous.

Really the only time something like that comes into play is a guy who's played for a single organization his whole career and takes a TAD less to end it there. Guys would go play in Antarctica for an extra $30-$40 million they don't care.

OK, so we have 4 outfielders on the roster now? Holiday and 3 2nd year players. This will look a lot better with Heyward.

Agreed. After "losing"" Bourjos and Jay, all the more reason to try to sign Heyward.

I take those two moves as a deliberate sign that the club is going to make the Heyward deal happen. Or at least they think it will happen and they are just cleaning up the books and shuffling where the money is being spent.

I like the 2 deals so far. Pena can hopefully give Yadi more rest. Gyorko is a solid bat off the bench and can play all the infield positions. Plus he hits lefties well. Let's finish it off with Heyward and a starting pitcher.

Does Zobrist mean the Cubs won't go after Heyward?

The Cubs dealt Castro to clear room at 2nd base for Zobrist.
