Chicago Bears 2015-2016

DET had no defender marking Richard Rodgers. Mind-boggling how bad that decision was. And the DET rush did not contain Aaron Rodgers in the pocket, allowing him to scramble outside and throw unabated to the end zone on the run. He would never have been able to get the ball to the end zone from the pocket. Stupid defensive strategy on that play.

Megatron becomes my "safety" on that play.

Doesnt sound terrible to me. I didnt see the game live but on the replay, that I only saw once, it just looked like a regular mass jump ball in the endzone that happens all the time. Just so happened that GB came down with it. Thats just what I saw on a quick replay. My guess is 99.9% The ball falls to the ground or is intercepted.

I've never understood only rushing 3 on a hail Mary play. Can someone who has a much brighter football mind than I explain that to me?

What a brutal, brutal loss today. Very reminiscent of the loss to the Lions earlier this year.

Shows that as well as they've been playing compared to last year, they still have a long way to go before they can be considered decent.

Is it finally time for the Bears to start looking for a new kicker? This is the 2nd game in several weeks where Gould has missed multiple FG that could have won the game.

He was quite a bit worse last year, probably due to injury. We probably didn't notice it as much since the Bears were so out of so many games, his misses weren't as significant.

This year, he actually leads the NFL in made field goals and is making them at a rate just a tick below his career average. The weird thing has been that he's missing them in clumps. Three in a row in the Vikings and the Chargers games, and then the two yesterday. Those are the only misses this year.

The Vikings miss was a 50+ try in the 3rd quarter that I think most of us thought the Bears should have gone for it on fourth down in that situation. Langford dropping a third down pass that would have allowed the Bears to ice the clock was the more proximate cause of that loss. Then the two misses in San Diego that made that a much closer game that it should have been. If there was any concern over those misses, Gould then made a whole bunch in a row until yesterday's disaster.

I don't believe he's ever missed one from that short with the game on the line. That's been automatic his entire career. I'm anxious to see how he does the remainder of the season. I really hope it's a fluke and we don't have to go looking for another kicker. Having a guy that you know is going to make every kick is such a great luxury.

I do wonder about the long snapper shuffle, and whether the one guy got released because his rhythm was off, or maybe that they were having trouble adjusting to the new guy.

I really don't like playing for the FG ever. I was screaming at the TV to at least try some conservative plays to try and score a TD. Maybe show run, but leak out a tightend, see if the d leaves him wide open.

Some kickers kick effectively into their late 30s, but others don't. RG is 34. He may be on the downside of his career.

It used to be that the first place you'd see a kicker start to lose it was on kickoffs. That's a bit less of an issue now, since they moved up the kick off spot.

Gould's range is still really good. He's hit 5 of 6 from 50+ this year. And leg strength certainly wasn't the problem on the 38-yarder he missed that would have won the game. (I looked it up - he's 88 for 99 on his career on kicks between 30 and 39 yards.) It just looked like he pulled it.

As shocking and demoralizing as that miss was yesterday, I still think Gould is more likely to hit every fg for the rest of the year than he is to go into an extended funk.

Sad to see Martellus Bennett put on season-ending IR. He is a tremendous weapon.

Gould fell off a cliff this year. Do we actually move on or wait and see if he returns to form next season?

Robbie Gould made 20 in a row, missed 3 in a row, then made 9 in a row, then missed 3 in a row again (when the long snapper was mysteriously replaced midweek), and then finished the season making 7 in a row.

They'll probably bring some competition in next summer, but I seriously doubt the Bears will find a better kicker on the market. Despite the troubles, he still hit on 84.6% of his tries, just barely off his 85.4% career mark, and significantly better than he preformed in '14.

Yesterday, I told my wife that I thought there were maybe 4 players on the field for defense that should be starting in the NFL. Too critical or too generous?

It felt, and still feels like the end of a very long pre-season yesterday. A lot of guys that you might root for to make the team who just are not athletically gifted enough playing a game that does not matter.

In terms of going forward Mcphee, Goldman, Fuller, Amos?

What do you guys think for the draft, I really wanted Jaylon Smith but not sure what his situation will be anymore.

If Nkemdiche is there can't pass on that talent can you?

Porter, Young, Houston? I haven't paid close attention to the defense this year, but those are the names that usually stuck out to me. But when you have this many holes in the roster, how much a player costs has just as much importance as how good he is. Not sure what anyone's contract is like right now. Forte is a free agent right?

Good call on Porter. Young and Houston surprised me in a good way this season adjusting to the new scheme but both are still 4-3 DE's so we'll have to see how it unfolds.
