The disturbing thing is that across multiple staffs we seem to be caught surprised by grade issues late in the process more often than other schools with similar restrictions. Whatever the requirements are going to be, clarity and communication flowing from admissions to the DIA to the coaching staffs to recruits and their parents is paramount.

This. The whole thing is a $#!+ show

There is a total vacuum of leadership. There are three critical people in setting clear standards: the head coach, the AD, and the Chancellor. We have short-term, powerless people in all three of those positions.

Illinois football is on hiatus until December. We should just be thankful for whatever kids we're able to hoodwink into an LOI until then.

KJKobs yeah that would be more accurate

Actually on WDWS this morning they were talking with Edgy Tim and said they didn't think it was grade related. I would surmise maybe core classes. They were befuddled since he tweeted he wanted to be here and we wanted him here. Just a total cluster f.

When people say "grades", that's usually what they mean.

Sorry, I didn't explain that well. By core classes I mean maybe he wasn't properly enrolled in the right ones. As opposed to getting bad grades. But I guess them saying it wasn't a grade issue could mean he's completely squared away academically.

Haha! Cubit's mouthpiece getting the "grades" rumor out there. :tsk:

But, Cubit coaches because he loves the kids! LOL :hand:

I Was trying to tell someone earlier that illinois has very tight admissions.... if you dont have the core classes or cp or ap courses its even harder to get in even with a 3. whatever...

I know this seems to be becoming a common theme, but this one really does seem like a grades thing. It's hard enough trying to recruit with the current stigma around the program, but when admissions continues to hamstring the coaching staffs I don't see how it's possible for anyone to succeed in this job. Time to loosen up the admission standards to meet all of the other teams in the B1G. At least 2 kids we've lost now this class because they couldn't get in.

I am not sure how many that is but along with reaching for the higher guy, he is flinging some pooh against the wall. At least TB had that figured out. If this an unusually high number than what does it say about the Big Cubes ability to learn and adapt?:hand:

When a young man comes in for a visit on junior day, senior day, the system is explained to the recruit and parents from start. The problem lies in the fact these young men do not understand the requirements until it is to late in their high school career. The grading for the ACT is now different. I believe you can no longer have any segment under 16. In the past if your average was above 16 you were good to go with the NCAA. I'm sure someone can explain the new requirements better than I. Couple that with U Of I standards and it get tougher. Do not diminish the academics for the sake of football please!

Probably get beat on this but, Scout has us at 65. Which, considering the circumstances, could be a lot worse. We do seem to have some help coming in at the receiver positions. Wish we had a couple of JC defenders that could come in and start on D and I would feel a lot better about next year. There are also those rated ahead of us with even lower overall star ratings. Signing day will be interesting and this could be a lot worse.

If the de-commitments are done and we get 2-4 more decent commits, then yeah I do not consider this class damaging to the program. Certainly not moving the arrow upward, but it won't destroy our depth chart in 2-3 years, and some of this guys will be pretty good. This season and who the new coach is will be more important to the future of Illinois football.

I agree this coming season will be huge. This class (if they all stick) has good size on the o-line and TE, good speed at WR, and maybe some under rated defensive help. Considering where the staff and program are at it seems we've done okay.

We've done a lot better than I thought we would, but this is still 2-10 talent, among the very worst in the Power Five and almost assuredly to fall further during the next few days as we're passed up by others with more open schollies.

Yes I'm not saying program changing talent. That will come next year :D. You have to be realistic about what we can get at this point. As fans we all want better.
