Welcome to the U of I Ayo!

I actually think this kid has a lot of talent despite the lack of offers. He is athletic, plays with strength, flies around the field, and has the frame to add weight.

May sound a little mean but i always thought the shelton kid was a bit over rated....he probably will only wear the blue and white uniform never even get any playing time lol....

kenyon jackson is undersized but i thought his highlight tape was better....

Sounds like Kendrick Foster may be staying after all.

I Seen that!! but does he get any carries? and more than dre brown or corbin?? he wasnt bad at all....runs with decent power.....i guess cubit just felt he didnt have any use for him i guess....

is he staying cause no one really wanted him as a transfer cause of his size?

I Was trying to tell someone earlier that illinois has very tight admissions.... if you dont have the core classes or cp or ap courses its even harder to get in even with a 3. whatever...

Sure for normal students, but almost every school loosen's the requirements just a bit for athletes. Even though Illinois has reportedly had a large number of "academic casualties", they still don't hold those guys to the same entry standards.

The problem is that the coaches are leaking it out that that's why these guys are looking elsewhere, and to myself (and I'm sure quhawks agrees), that's in really bad taste to do. It's basically grown men saying "hey, this wasn't our fault" and gives the kids very little chance of a dignified rebuttal.

Yes, athlete admissions are already lower than regular students. And it seems like ours need to be even lower. If athletes had the same admission standards and regular students most of the football and basketball players in the NCAA wouldn't be in school.

On the radio the other day they mentioned that he made a huge jump his senior yr and is a much better prospect now. This one is at a position of need and hurts big time.

It's the staff attempting to defend their recruiting efforts and the rash of decommits. They're already getting slammed for the weak class, I'm sure they want to point out very specifically the ones they aren't responsible for. In very poor taste IMO.

Not in poor taste at all IMO. Calling out the fact that the admissions for the athletes are too high. If we want to be competitive they need to be lowered. Simple as that.

I agree. It's not in poor taste. Also, if memory serves me correctly, coaches at Illinois have been claiming this as the biggest hamper to recruiting for years. Even going back to Turner.

on Saturday Sportsline, Loren Tate said he was told by the recruiting director that there were only two schools in the B1G that are on a higher level as far as athletes go. Wisconsin and Illinois. He said he was also told that Barry Alvarez is trying to get Wisconsin's lowered as we speak.

Northwestern has the highest standards in the Big Ten

Great. Mention that you couldn't sign some kids due to high university admissions standards. Mention that those high standards are leaving holes in your team.

No need to leak to reporters: "PLAYER X CAN'T GET INTO ILLINOIS! HE JUST WASN'T ACADEMICALLY SUCCESSFUL ENOUGH TO PLAY HERE."

Can accomplish the same goal with: "Unfortunately, there are some good players that weren't able to join our squad this year due to heightened admissions standards. Those kids are playing at other Power 5 schools today. They're good enough for our team, their academics are good enough for the NCAA, but not for us. This will bite us later."

or how about "Little Jimmy apparently didn't care much about his grades, instead was focused on that free ride waiting for him, and as a result, just didn't get it done in the classroom" ??

BREAKING: OT Eddy Fish has flipped to the #illini, per source. Former Boston College commit.

How we flipped a guy from Groton, MA, who is considered a hard commit to BC, should make a good story. Assuming it is true. He probably grew up hoping to play for BC.

So we should publicly deride all non-qualifiers?

Should we tell every prospective UI non-athletic student the same thing in their rejection letters? Ya know, minus the free ride part?

"Dear Little Jimmy,

We are sorry to inform you that your application to join the UI student body has been rejected. Perhaps if you had spent less time playing sports/smoking weed/talking in class and just studied a bit harder we would have had room for you. Sucks to suck, ur fault bro. In addition, we will be announcing your failure to gain admittance via leaked transmissions to several reporters. You should see these notifications across various social media channels shortly. We recommend you notify your grandmother in the 12 hour grace period before she finds out via Facebook that you won't be attending college.

Sincerely,

UI Admissions"

If we get Simms I'd say that's two good, B1G caliber OL classes in a row

Agreed. Hopefully we're getting to the point where we can run the ball at least 40% of the time next season. And I mean actual rushes, not WR screens and dump-offs and the like.

I've heard a lot of good about Gabe. Hopefully he and Allegretti can take the next steps at guard to give the line some punch.
