Henricksen? About Illinois? Don't think so.

Henricksen has generally been favorable to Illinois, recruiting, impact of Parham, etc. He always hedges in his statements though, and while I have not heard what he said about 2017, I'd imagine he did as well.

Now if Michael O'Brien made those statements, that would be a different story. :)

I refuse to believe anything until it happens or an insider cosigns it!

Goodwin seemed pretty excited to get that Indiana offer. Said in a recent interview he was waiting on it

The premise that John Groce will win consistently with 3-4 stars and compete with for B1G titles is clearly wrong. I do not think that Groce is as bad as some posters make him out to be, but he has already been here for 4 years, and there has been absolutely nothing in his coaching, no indication whatsoever, that indicates that he has the ability to compete for B1G titles with 3-4 stars. Absolutely none.

Unfortunately, there is no indication that he can compete for B1G titles with 5* players either, but at least there is an ounce of hope. But he first has to prove that he can successfully recruit 5* players, and close the deal.

We need better talent, no doubt about it. Unless Groce can recruit an excellent 2017 class, there is very little hope for the future.

Sorry to bring the injury thing up again but...well actually I'm not sorry. How can you say this with the injuries we've had? This was his first shot at competing with a team full of his own players and we got destroyed by injuries. The progression of Rice, Hill, Nunn, Finke at the beginning of the season, and now Mav are all indicators of the ability to compete with 3-4 stars. We just don't have enough bodies due to the injuries.

And I don't think anyone expects Groce to consistently win with 3-4 stars. He just needs to win with 3-4 stars to get the program back on track. Hopefully that starts next year. How many coaches consistently compete for titles in a power 5 conference with no 5 stars. Is Bo Ryan the only one?

You can't use the injury excuse beyond this year, it is the whole body of work in his tenure at UI, not just this year. As I said, Groce is not as bad of a coach as some make him out to be, but there is nothing in his body of work that indicates he is an exceptional coach who can outcoach, outdevelop, and outsmart B1G teams and coaches with just OK talent.

But I also think the same for pretty much all coaches at UI and history has shown exactly that with our best teams (e.g., 89, 01, 05). I know people like to bring Bo Ryan up as an example, but he is more of an exception (although even Ryan got good talent on his best teams) than the rule. Just because someone won the lottery before, does not make your odds better.

On your point of getting the program back on track, the post I responded was talking about competing for B1G titles, not just getting back on track.

As far as 2017 recruiting, we have to make up much ground. Our program is way behind, three years with no tournament and losing Hill, Nunn, Mav, Abrams, Thorne, even Lewis, Tate, and potentially Black. This is not just a regular "maintenance" recruiting class.

Sam Dekker was a five star and on Wisconsin just last year along with a number of four stars. It is a myth that Ryan didn't have highly ranked players over the years. I could make a list starting with five star Brian Butch.

I was just looking through Illinois Big Ten Championships and I believe the 1998 team is the only team to win a Big Ten Championship without a McDonald's All American on the roster (since the inception of the game in 1978)?

In spite of feeling like a kid in a candy store, I need to remind myself that all offers are not commitable and that they are not on a first come first serve basis.

Did you finally receive an offer from UI?

May have missed this, but what was the outcome of the Lucas injury? A sprain or fracture to the leg/ankle and is he back on his HS squad yet?

Double fracture on foot. Fortunately, no ACL nor surgery. Was co-MVP of MKE city league.
Season done.
