Well, we've got our blinker on.
Just like the old fogey driving up I-57, it's been on for years. You can't tell when we are a turning, but we are a turning.
Well, we've got our blinker on.
Goodwin played football as a sophomore last year as well as this year. I watched them play a few times. Kid is a good receiver. I'd be shocked if anyone beats them in 3A this year. They lost a game early in the season to Highland when the football team was still playing and they were missing 4 starters. They also lost to Chaminade when Tatum went off in the 2nd half. They beat a good Chicago Kenwood team. Goodwin had 30. I really hope that he commits soon. With Pickett already committed and Goodwin coming aboard this could be Groce's signature class.
Hopefully with the changing of the guard and JW now on the job things will start coming up orange .
Recruiting appears to be a non-Newtonian fluid for Illinois. The more stress we apply, the more weird stuff ends up happening. Cliffmas, Snider, etc.
Ugh...... another recruiting problem. Champaign needs state backI would also enjoy watching Damonte in the final against Goodwin. I just checked out the bracket and if things go as planned then Damonte and Moore will face off in the semi finals. But there is a lot of competition on that side of the bracket. Anything can happen, but Althoff should have a fairly easy road to Peoria.
I'd like this idea to be explored more. I'm not disagreeing, but how would the state tourney being played in C-U directly improve recruiting? I'm just curious to hear how this plays out, because I accept the tourney in Peoria as status quo (due to my age).Ugh...... another recruiting problem. Champaign needs state back

For the high school kid it used to be a big thing to play on the Assembly Hall floor in the tourny and for many kids that aura carried over to their college choices.
Recruiting wasn't as national back then, I don't think it would have the same allure in this day and age, at least not to the big fish we are after.
I would prefer to have the tournament in c-u though as opposed to peoria

I Like the idea, but my guess is the NCAA may have some problems with that.We should renew Groce's contract with built in conditions that he land Tilmon, Damonte, Goodwin or equivalent players. 5 year extension if he gets all of them. Some lesser extensions if he gets some - giving them assurance he has security. Groce fails to deliver them- gone next year. Groce gets a good enough class, he's guaranteed security- so Tilmon doesn't have to worry that he'll be gone any time soon if he comes.

I'm sure it wouldn't be that frowned upon to have some sort of recruiting expectation stipulation, perhaps make it more to do with class rankings than necessarily landing individual players.
There's no way to have anything like that with any actual meaning in a contract. Incentive clauses are based on actual measurable accomplishments, like conference titles, NCAA bids or even team GPA. Can you imagine lawyers arguing over whether to use ESPN's rankings vs RCSI, etc?
Yes, I'm sure there are lawyers among us that have argued such on here
