Curious what these Damonte williams rumors are that people are referencing? Is there something floating out there that he's close?

The rumors are he's ready to come aboard, but Groce's uncertain status is holding it up.

I understand Williams being a bit wary about making sure that Groce is stable. But he's gotta be thinking about his sophomore year and beyond. No way does Groce get canned after this season barring some sort of absurd meltdown. It would be an insane move, hiring-wise.
this pretty much sums it up. Elite recruiter but couldnt coach a junior high team to a championship. They should be dominating that conference with their talent. Dedric LAwson is a future NBA all star.

Just a follow-up about Kezo Brown from last week on No Shot Clock. MOB asked Smith about it and Smith wouldn't respond (it sounded like even 'off the record') so whatever the problem is, is officially a mystery for now. O'Brien said that's probably the first time Smith hasn't answered a direct question from him.

Well it must be true if it came off of a paid site.
Somebody needs to send these recruits the link from Whitman's introductory press conference when he called Groce and Cubit tremendous coaches and thanked both of them for being present.100% of the time the domino effect never happens. Even knowing that, 100% of the time I fall for it.
This made me lol.....because the same applies to me.
um, the 100% is extremely wrong. Jobert, DJ and Paul happened here and it was rumored before it even happened. And, it included Richmond.....
I want to believe these rumors but I just can't. I hope they are right because that recruiting class would be the type to be around multiple years and could get the ship heading in the right direction. They also could make it fashionable to go to Illinois again, at least for recruits in Illinois. I want to believe....
Werner made some pretty bold statements the other day on the jay and Tay show. He pretty much said that williams was in the bag if groce stayed.
Yea he did. I think a number of people have aluded to this. Werner, Tate, Piper, Henrickson in a round about way. Will be interesting. One thing I though was worth noting was Henrickson's confidence in what Illinois will land in 2017. He's usually very blunt but he sounded pretty optimistic about what could happen.
To me, this is reason alone to keep Groce. Rebuilding is agonizing. Let's land another good class.
If IU has stopped recruiting Williams and Kansas has not offered, what other option does Williams have?? Cincinnati?? I don't recall anybody else even showing interest or being present at his games.
Maybe a result of being down south and away from that Chicago hype train? Still a long way to go. I'm sure there will be more interest for Williams, Goodwin, and Tilmon once AAU season starts.
I know I'm not the first person to say this but doesn't percieved destination have something to do with that?
Yeah, I don't think many schools think they have a chance to beat illinois for him.
Then why all the "other" activity on Tim Finke?
Finke isn't even close to being a lock to Illinois at this time.
