I think you got it right. Also you have to remember the Double Standard Rule. Lewis doesn't have an offer from a Big Ten school other than Illinois, but you get an exemption if you're from out of state or play higher than 1A ball. Therefore, Lewis is also Big Ten caliber.

Iowa State and Auburn have both offered. Iowa State better program than us, and Auburn has gotten some 5* recently. Chastain has an Utah offer, maybe?

Would rather have a player like Lewis so we can redshirt a 17 like Pickett than Chastain who probably wont see playing time at his first year and with everyone potentially coming in probably not his second either.

According to sources, Tillman is ready to commit, but is waiting for other things to shake out first. He heard about some kid named Chastain and wants to make sure he still has a committable scholarship offer. :)

Here's where the beating the dead horse started on this page gentlemen. Oh, but you're on his side right?

Let's talk about Pickett too.

What about Pickett? He plays tougher competition, put up 24 points a game, appears to be around 6'5ish, and is a 2017 recruit where we have 6 schollies to give out. Not one more in 2016. We need another big man in 2016, not a wing. Chastain is redundant.

Pickett? Illinois got him early before his recruiting picked up. First team all stater at the highest level in Illinois. I saw him get 40 and was very impressed with what he did that night. He still has another year of high school, too.

Yep. 2017 is an exceptional class. Pickett may be our least heralded and could end up being the best of the bunch. The potential is there. Add in Goodwin and Tilmon and this could be a special group.

That's not the discussion. Offers are the discussion. Some here feel the list of offers proves the quality of the recruit. That's a ridiculous assumption is the point. Thanks for agreeing with me I guess?

Why have people been underestimating Pickett? He is really good. And like you said he has one whole year left!

We get it, you're from Leroy... He's probably not getting an offer, can we let this die?

It says something when ISU and Auburn have offered you as a junior. Pickett wasn't offered but didn't go through AAU yet. Chastain is just getting looked at as a Senior during the spring. Recruits get overhyped during the spring when teams are looking to fill their rosters.

It's nice to have a fun recruiting thread again.

It's not ridiculous. Offers are the best info many/most posters get about high school recruits. Most posters don't have the ability to watch recruits live. Yes, if more offers start coming in like Iowa and Purdue then Chastain will get more respect. But that's because college coaches get paid to evaluate these recruits.

And even if bigger offers do come in, it doesn't mean he's a high D1 player. It could just be a team taking a reach because they have a hole at the wing position and its late in the process so there isn't much out there. Honestly, if someone like AJ or DJW transferred or we didn't get Kipper during the season then Groce would probably be taking a good look at Chastain.

It's not ridiculous. And no one said offers proving anything, it's just a good indicator. Offers are the best info many/most posters get about high school recruits. So it's a no win situation? They're important, but they're not important if HE gets major offers.

I was more arguing the consistency of how people judge Illinois recruits and I've obviously taken this down the rabbit hole. Not my intention to derail this thread. It's turned into a circular argument at this point.

After watching LaLu today I think if we could get the top players from there I wouldn't care so much about the Chicago drama that it brings. There are 4 players on that team that I would love seeing play for the Illini. Sadly Bowen is about a 0% chance but I would take tyger, Tillmon, Bowen and even Coleman. He seems to have a sweet shot like his brother

Seems like someone asked him a loaded question to me.

Huh? His comment is pretty straightforward:

* “I’m committed to Illinois but if there was a coaching change I would reconsider.” — Williams on his commitment to the Illini and coach John Groce
