Glad the offense has come around, but we really need Grichuk to get going. Need to clean up the sloppiness on defense too. Way too many errors, that will bite us against good teams

Our defense is bad. I don't understand how we can go from top 5/6 in the league to bottom 5 in a season. I know it's only 5 games in, but man, it's concerning.

I think, should we need a 6th starter for whatever reason, that Tyler Lyons would probably be the one to get the start, we have options in AAA to replace him in the pen easier than we do a starter. He's looked sharp so far in his bullpen appearances

Matheny claims the defense will get better, which isn't exactly astute, since it can't get much worse. :hand:

The failure to obtain additional offense, either at 1B or OF, in the offseason is going to haunt the Cardinals this year. A lineup depending so heavily on either Adams or Moss, at what is supposed to be an offensive position, is not a very good lineup.

Which is why Holliday will play first base when we get healthy.

Great to see not just scoring runs, but hitting with power in the last 4 games. 10 extra base hits today. Plus, Diaz and Hazelbaker continue to rake. I'm sure scouting will start to focus on them much more, so we'll see if they find any weak spots.

Diaz needs to be in the lineup. If he's the SS of the future and they have called him up, get him in there. Glad to see him in there today.

Going to be hard to send Diaz and Hazelbaker back to Memphis after their performances so far.

I really hate MLBs schedule to start a season. Their are way too many off days. This is annoying.

Never understood the rationale behind playing a game on opening day (or opening day at home) and then taking a day off before resuming the series. Saying that, after today the Cardinals only have one more day off in their next 25 games.

The empty date after the home opener is there in case the opener is rained out. All the festivities are not delayed for a make up date.

Thanks. Makes sense.

The good thing is they have plenty of time to prove they belong here. When Pham gets healthy I hope they send Garcia down. Then that gives Hazelbaker and Diaz a chance to prove themselves until Peralta comes back, which is mid June at the earliest. Hopefully it is still a really tough decision at that time.:thumb:

When Jaime is on, he's a top 5 pitcher in the league.

Hazelbaker continues to be on fire.

Is Gryoko the new Jay? I think so. There's no reason to play Gryoko over Wong.

There are 3 good reasons.

1.) Wong can't play 162 games.
2.) Wong hasn't had a great start to the season. Give him an off day to regroup.
3.) We're playing the Brewers. These are the teams you rest players against.

Gyorko will be a big reason for our success this season. He can play 3 infield positions and provides some pop off the bench. Not really similar to Jay at all.

Jay, by the way, is hitting .244 in 10 games with the Padres. His only extra base hits are 3 doubles out of 10 total hits. 5 runs scored, 5 RBI's and 12 strikeouts. Don't know how he is fielding.

He's already had 3 or 4 games off this season, and Gryoko can really only play 1 good infield spot and that's second; the rest he is a subpar defender

This was his first game off.

We'll see how Matheny manages Molina's off days. He hasn't had one yet, but he did get to sit out a couple innings in the home opener. With the Cubs coming up, this series with Reds would be a good time to sit him. But I say let him play everyday until Pena comes back then make up for the missed off days by resting him extra towards the end of the season.

He's didn't start in two games, second game of the year.

Molina would be sitting every 3 to 4 games if Pena was here. He should at least cause we need him in September and October.

So I finally went to the current Busch Stadium yesterday for the first time.

I haven't been to a Cardinal game for about 25 years so here are some impressions.

-MUCH better than the previous Busch and it's not even close
-Sat in Home Pavilion section 351 (thank you StubHub for the $6 list price)
-Weather: Perfect
-I didn't go inside Ballpark Village (lack of time) but walked past it
-Used Metrolink round trip from Fairview Heights and it was good (except for being packed like sardines after the game)
-Jaime was awesome
-I'm going to the Coca-Cola Deck on 6/15 for the all-inclusive experience.

All in all, I had a great day.

If you have a chance to go sometime again this year, sit in the champions club (all-inclusive).
