2016 St. Louis Cardinals

Bad timing for this post lol.;)

Evidently we gave Fowler an offer he couldn't refuse. But let's not forget Mozeliak gave Price a competitive offer and Heyward a competitive offer. But at the time, we didn't absolutely need either player. Mo is willing to spend money when we need it. We definitely needed a CF and Mo didn't give Fowler a chance to think about it.

I am pleasantly surprised!

Fowler (love him in the leadoff spot with his OPS) minus a 1st rounder >>>> Eaton minus top prospects (probably would've took Reyes). I'm all for overspending cash rather than overspending prospects. We have a ton of cash, might as well spend some of it.

Fowler going to lead off likely, so is this the year marp steps up and is actually able to have a good offensive season somewhere other than leadoff? He would be a good option to replace Holliday in the 3 hole if he could get out of his own head.

Fowler
Diaz
Carpenter
Piscotty
Peralta
Molina
Grichuk
Wong
Pitcher

With Gyorko, Adams, and Pham getting regular ab's. Not the worst lineup. Lots of potential, just need some younger guys to put it all together for a full season.

Wouldn't be surprised to see another move or two though.

I have no doubt this is how Matheny will make the lineup, but ideally it would go Fowler - Carpenter - Piscotty - Diaz then descending order of hitting ability. Best OBP goes 1, best all around hitter goes 2, 3rd best hitter goes 3rd and second best hitter goes 4th.

I think this is a good signing overall. I have 0 confidence in Fowler's defense, but should be serviceable in CF for at least the next 2 seasons, which should give them time to see what Bader is able to do in AAA.

I think the Cubs have held serve, still a 94-95 win team on paper. And I'd expect them to be around there if they're starting pitching stays healthy. Cardinals need another move, they're around a 86 win team on paper now. I'd love a big money, low year offer to Encarnacion. Live with Carpenter playing 3rd for a few years, or stick him at second and get something for Wong.

I agree, except swap trumbo for encarnacion. I've always been a big fan of Mark Trumbo.

I think the lineup lacks that superstar, serious pop and rbi potential player. Either trumbo or encarnacion would fill that void
