interesting that the cubs signed Jon Jay. I wonder if that seals the fate of Fowler leaving to go elsewhere. Though I liked Jon with the cards, i never really felt he was an everyday kinda player. He did hit fairly consistently though.

I have heard less connection between the cards and Fowler recently. I wonder if we'll hear any new names for the OF pop up.

I thought it was an interesting signing also. The general consensus is that this signing means the end of Dexter in a Cubs uniform, but stranger things have happened. Jon might not be an everyday cf with this team. His value here is that he is left handed, a strong defensive cf, and a good stop gap to get Almora ready to take over.

I know there was Charlie Blackmon rumors last winter, I really hope we can get in on him again, he'd be a great pick up with grichuk and piscotty in the corners.

Jaime Garcia traded to the Braves for prospects. Looks like a move to free up some more cash. Hopefully this means a big move is coming. There have been some rumors about Justin Turner, which I would be very happy with.

Maness gone now too. This one I don't understand, unless they know something about his elbow that the rest of us don't. He was good when healthy, and cheap.

Apparently Mozeliak felt that the Cards will have enough right handed relief pitching without Maness, especially with the acquisition of John Gant from Atlanta.

Matt did a lot for the STL organization and the city. I wish him well in his new role with the Bronx Bombers.

I root for a team that has a really hard time spending money. Teams are giving up top prospects for guys like Desmond and Eaton. It becomes apparent that giving up a first round draft pick is less devastating that cutting loose of Reyes. So the difference is the cash cost of acquiring Fowler.

I fully expect the Cardinals to come in second. Second in races for top Free Agents and second in the NL Central.

So we look to trade Adams for a Blackmon. Really?

So we look within. Pham in left, Grichuck in CF and Piscotty in right. Not terrible but reliably inconsistent.

So how about upgrades in the infield. I was most intrigued by Turner at 3rd. I don't see that happening either.

Bottom line. To catch the Cubs it probably takes both Fowler and Turner.

Put me in the Blackmon corner. I would rather have him before Fowler. Still think we need to put Carp back at 3rd and give Adams a full year at 1rst and let Johnny P back them up. I am not holding out hope that Wong will ever be the best option at 2nd either.

Adams never lasts a whole year. His body isn't ever going to hold up to the grind. I think we are stuck with him though. The Cards think Wong is a future Gold Glove. I'm 50/50 at best that he pans out. Same for Grichuk.

I love Diaz and Piscotty. The problem is your chasing the Cubs who have a roster full of All Stars.

Time for Dewitt Family to spend some cash.

I use to put this on Mo but there is no way he doesn't want to play at the top.

I like Gyrko at third. His bat proved good enough for every day.

Actually I like Turner at third, Gyrko at second and trade Wong but Mo has made it clear he likes Wong.

I'm not a huge Matheny fan either but he has not been given a great rosters either.

We had Yadi and a great pitching staff in 2015. He over used all of it.

But the need for a middle of the order hitter has largely gone unaddressed. Defensive upgrades talked about. Bull pen patched together. Leake a bust. And our stars got old.

DeWallet needs to open up. With the big $$ contracts gone and that attendance, time to pony up.

I think DeWitt is fully prepared to spend money (see Heyward and Price offers last year), however he doesn't want to spend it just to spend it. Unfortunately with the way the market has played out no deals have made sense. Sadly, this may be a year where we just go with what we have and make a big splash next off season when the free agent crop is way better.

Fowler going to lead off likely, so is this the year marp steps up and is actually able to have a good offensive season somewhere other than leadoff? He would be a good option to replace Holliday in the 3 hole if he could get out of his own head.

Fowler
Diaz
Carpenter
Piscotty
Peralta
Molina
Grichuk
Wong

With Gyorko, Adams, and Pham getting regular ab's. Not the worst lineup. Lots of potential, just need some younger guys to put it all together for a full season.

Wouldn't be surprised to see another move or two though.

Bad timing for this post lol.;)

Evidently we gave Fowler an offer he couldn't refuse. But let's not forget Mozeliak gave Price a competitive offer and Heyward a competitive offer. But at the time, we didn't absolutely need either player. Mo is willing to spend money when we need it. We definitely needed a CF and Mo didn't give Fowler a chance to think about it.
