I know it means nothing, because it's april, but it's nice to get a win today and avoid the sweep.

IMO it means a lot. Last year we went 11-8 against the Cubs, and we beat them in the standings by 3 games. We went 10-9 against the Pirates and beat them by 2 games. You only get 19 against each team, so even the series in April mean a ton. But there is still plenty of baseball left to make up the early deficit.

We have a great philosophy for batting... if it's out of the zone we swing at those, and if it happens to be a really good pitch in the zone then it's best not to swing.

This team is frustrating this year. The strike outs are killing me. You can't put pressure on the defense if you don't put it in play.

I'm officially concerned about Waino. I just hope he isn't one of those players when he loses it, they fall off a cliff and don't regain form

I'm a bit more concerned about our murderer's row of a starting lineup

I wonder what Hazelbaker is thinking right now. Has a tough series against the Cubs, then gets benched for 3 straight games. His confidence is probably gone now.

I'd feel bad about that if I hadn't looked up at the scoreboard the other night and seen that the cubs avg's were as bad, if not worse. Like Farley said, it's not a good indicator, especially not this early in the season.

Aledmys Diaz can flat out rake. His defense is mehhh, but if he continues to hit like this while Wong doesn't do chit; move Marp back to 2nd, Diaz to 3rd, and Peralta to SS. I think that would be the best IF going forward. Hoping Wong starts to heat up, like this series.

Or just move Diaz to 2nd. I think he played some 2nd base in spring training. And he's been shaky throwing the ball across the diamond. He has the arm to do it, but it's inconsistent right now.

Dang, when are we gonna get our hands on some young talent like our rivals to the north???

That's probably a better scenario altogether. I like Gryoko so far, but like him in spot starts and off the bench type role. The role that Jay should have been last year and the year before.

Yeah Gyorko has been solid. I also thought about having Carpenter play 1st and Gyorko playing 3rd, until Pham comes back. We need to be playing Moss/Adams as little as possible. Ideally when Pham comes back Holliday can play 1st full time.

Well, just turned from the blues game in time to see Segura is 3-3 and then takes siegrist deep for the lead

With Holliday and Wong out tonight...Hazelbaker is batting leadoff? We'll see how it goes.

Also, how long does Diaz have to rake before Matheny decides to move him up in the order?

Honestly I don't mind Diaz that low. Gives us offense down in the order, and not as much pressure to put up numbers at 8. I'd keep him there for the foreseeable future.

Just heard the quote of the year so far from the broadcast team. Wong had been dealing with the flu for the past few days and said among other things that Wong was dealing with serious "internal strife" as part of the symptoms. I'll let you draw your own conclusions on that one.

That triple by waino we as fun. I didn't know he had it in him. It's a good night when your Picher can clean up

I was very unhappy when mike let him hit in that situation, considering how he looked through the first 5 innings (and didn't even get through the 6th after) and how good our bench has been in pinch hitting situations. Worked out though, but would have been better odds.for him to hit a weak grounder for an inning ending double play.

Bullpen continues to impress
