So, we are losing recruits to Indiana now?

The logical side of my brain is saying "patience, faith." But unfortunately the past few decades of Illini football has erased those words from my vocabulary.
After listening to lovie I am ok with his process, it's going to take time ,gotta have kids that WANT to come here. This stuff about going off a cliff over recruiting is getting annoying. 4 months ,that's what he has had. Step back and realize that we have a very professional coach now.

This stuff is the stock-in-trade of what college coaching is. Projecting dignity at a podium is great. Getting 17 year olds to put the photoshopped picture of themselves in your uniform on their Instagram feed is what the job actually is.
It has been a disastrous start, below any reasonable expectations, there is no sugarcoating it.
The honeymoon period is huge for recruiting for any new staff, and we have utterly bellyflopped.

2018 will give us a MUCH better clue how Lovie and staff will recruit

I heard there's going to be a a big event this weekend that's going to get a lot of out-of-state prospects on campus. It sounds like something the staff has been planning a little while. Hopefully we see some movement.
They may very well also be facing headwinds at that point that they aren't now. If this season is ugly on the field, and it might be, the narrative is going to be a lot less rosy than it is now. Narratives don't come much more rosy than this staff's is right now.
It could be ugly as we don't have depth on offense. But why don't you give a coaching staff more than 4 months before freaking out? This is a longterm project, not a quick fix.

How do you bring recruits into that in 4 months.
Other splashy hires do all the time. This period is typically a rich vein of recruiting for new staffs across the country, and there is no question that it was intended to be the same for Lovie. He has stepped up to the plate and is striking out left and right.
I am more excited for the Lovie era than most, I think. I'm not giving up. But the results don't start on September 8th. They started on March 7th. Stuff is happening, it matters, and it's going horrendously. I don't see what the point is in pretending that it doesn't exist.
And what coaches came straight from NFL to college that was a non-powerhouse and got immediate results?
I don't have time to sift through Rivals to answer that question in a data-rich way right now, but Jim Mora Jr. springs to mind.
