Illini Football 2016

It's gonna take a lot to shut their RB. If we do it's gonna be because we allocated a lot of resources his way. That opens up the QB run as we all know. That is the scary part, as it still keeps their offense balanced.

I think we have what it takes to shut the run game down this year. Our Dline is so talented and deep and our linebacker speed is beyond better than it was last year and better talent wise I think. Combine that with our excellent upgrade in defensive staff and we might have us a recipe for shutting teams down.

I'm hoping for a Cincinnati-like outcome from a few years back. Had absolutely no expectations for a win heading in, but end up dominating. Just hope the rest of the season turns out better.
As long as we follow up the game better than we followed that one...

I can't remember the last time I was so excited for the Illinois football season to begin. I am looking forward to surprising season.

Excited to see this season, the professionalism of Lovie's staff is very evident. Hardy and McGee can carry interviews and practices like the pros.

I see improvements in year one in competitiveness and recruiting, winning 7-9+ games may not occur until year 3. We need to be patient, I'm enjoying Lovie on interviews on ESPN and being a pro. Don't miss the Lasagna spewing nepotism Mid major previous staff.

Biggest challenge IMHO will be to replace Lunt with a dual threat QB. Can possibly decrease the pressure of a top notch QB with stud defenses and top notch RB game.

Did anyone notice Coach McGee telling the QBs not to throw it out of bounds? He seemed visibly upset about it too.

"You're wasting your time and the receiver's time. Throw it somewhere he can make a catch."

I love this new staff. Hopefully we don't see much more of Lunt's famous throws to the fans.

I'd much rather Lunt be cautious (throw it away), than risk injury. If he goes down, the team goes down.

I think you're missing the point. By throwing it away he is leaving out an opportunity on the field. Learn to throw it in the spot only the reciever can get to instead of wasting a play. That is Coach McGee's philosophy and I take no issue with it

Throwing it deep to a spot only the reciever can get to vs. throwing it away makes no impact on Lunt's chances of being injured.

I find it refreshing to say the least that McGee tells the QBs that a throw out of bounds is a waste of time and effort on the part of the entire offense on the field, and for the fans as well. Lunt threw the ball away far too many times last year and as such did not try to make a play. If you want us to play two hand touch, well ...

X2! And it is so awesome to have someone representing the University of Illinois and the football program that exudes and commands respect after years of cringing....

Impressive piece. Handled each question ranging from football to race relations absolutely perfectly. If you're a young man how do you NOT want to play for Lovie and this staff?? I think we might have finally got something right with this hire. I actually believe...We Will Win. :shield:

Do we know when depth chart will come out? Couldn't find anything on fightingillini.com website.

I think you misunderstood his point. They were doing the fade drill and he was getting pissed about them throwing those out of bounds and not giving the WR a chance even.

I highly doubt he has any problem throwing a ball away when there is nothing there.

I watched this a few times and I'm giddy. We got the right guy to lead us back...WE GOT THE RIGHT GUY!!!

NOW that makes sense! I was wondering how a coach could say it is a waste to throw a ball away. It is more of a waste to force it where this isn't anything! Glad you cleared this up, Kramer. (I didn't see anywhere Coach McGee said that, just read it on here.)

Anybody see the promotional calendar that is out. Sure seems like they're trying to sell out homecoming. $30 tickets, with $10 concession voucher, $5 experience credit (no idea what this is), free t-shirt, and free gloves you can text in (just incase it's cold).

Hopefully they can get some early unexpected wins and come in looking for a bowl game.

Murray State, Purdue, Western Michigan, Rutgers, and... ?
