nope no silent anything and who knows what will happen a year from now. JG just has heard enough to believe we didn't need to take a PG last year and a PG/combo plus 2 other combos this year.

2018 5 star PGs Courtney Ramey and Ayo Dosunmu. Both have visited. Ramey may have visited twice. Both appear to be quite interested.

This info is pretty well known to those dialed in to recruiting. One doesn't have to be an insider or subscriber to a premium service to know this.

the 2 i'm talking about are Gordon and Ramey, but Dosunmo and Garland also ad to the mix. There is a long time to go one anyone for 2018, but there is enough positive vibes to make taking 3 pg/combos in 2017 really made no since

It also had a lot to do with JG showing TL TF and DW some support

and no I'm not an Insider nor do I pay for premium info

I agree, I think a lot of people on this board read way more into that quote than reasonably should have been. I don't know where everyone got the idea that Groce had to say "you are not welcome here". I think it was just a frank and open discussion about what Scruggs was looking for, what the Illini had to offer, and how that under the newest circumstances Illinois was not going to be the best fit for him. Groce didn't dump him, they discussed the relationship and decided to just be friends.

Could be any of Kezo, Messiah Jones, Kejaun Clements or one of the younger players Smith always seems to have in abundance. I don't think we're going to end up with Ramey or Dosunmu so Brown might be a plan if he's really back from whatever ailed him last year.

You make room on the roster for Ramey or Dosunmu. Brown, not so much. He is not good enough at this point in time, imo. With only possibly one scholarship available, he would not be a priority with Lucas and Frazier on board. You only take more than one and worry about spots later for a major talent. I don't see Brown in that category.

I hope we have a good relationships with instate coaches, especially Simeon. The relationship between Simeon and Illinois has been good to both programs.

Crean's in home w/KAW yesterday, ended up being at open gym. You've got to love the guy to his right in the orange shirt. :)

I don't sense that many on here have the impression that JG told Scruggs he is not welcome. I do think he likely told him they were going in a different direction and this was likely based upon both conversations with '18 recruits as well as with Scruggs. The bottom line is though that none of us know for sure how that conversation went down other than what has been publicly shared.

Doubtful. Eastern has indicated that he wants to play point guard. I don't think we can promise him that.

He's talked about visits to Missouri but not us, so I'm doubting there any realistic outcomes for ILL and Eastern at this point.

I find it interesting because Miss State already has a handful of underclassmen bigs. Should be a tough sell to get Kiir on board if he’s really looking for immediate playing time. But I’m sure stranger things have happened.

Recruiting is a business about relationships and there are many reasons why recruits and coaches say things to preserve image and goodwill, not only for themselves but also the other party. No different than when schools allow recruits to say they have "offers" when in many cases they are not committable, or schools telling recruits to say they are not considering their school anymore, when in reality they let recruits know they have gone another direction, or coaches dropping their name from consideration for job openings right before announcement. It happens all the time for both recruits and schools.

Coaches (and recruits) are not naive. They most often know their chances. And it is not lack of integrity either. Just because a recruit schedules a visit, does not mean every schools getting a visit has the same chances. Scruggs and Wilkes are examples of that. It does not mean that their visit (or planned visit) was not genuine. But that does not imply equal chances either.

Other than the coaches and recruits (and/or family) nobody really knows the exact communication during the course of their recruitment. But it was no secret that Scruggs (and Wilkes) were longshots. Groce is not naive. The most likely scenario is not that Illinois preferred someone else over Scruggs and said "no thanks.". But they did not want to take the chance of waiting for someone who was considered a long shot instead of getting a very good player (but lower ranked) with a guaranteed commitment.

I am sure Scruggs lost no sleep and shed no tears, and his family handled it perfectly. But it does not mean that is was a "preference" decision with everything else being equal, despite the respectful statement by the family. JMO.
