Alford was into see Bowen yesterday, so Tugs to UCLA is not out of the question. If that is the case than that would have some effect on UCLA and Wilkes.

Bowen is taking his time, but it's still hard to see him going anywhere other than Michigan State. His ties to that program are longstanding and deep. If he goes anywhere else, it will be a real shock.

Yup, you are probably right. We thought 12 CB's to Illinois for J Good was a lot, well how about 21 to MSU for Bowen. Some of those MSU CB's are aliitle rusty. :)

Sean Scherer picked Bowen to MSU on 11-11-13 -- or 4 days before Cliff committed to Kansas. And that feels like an eternity ago.

Not gonna happen but wouldn't that be something if the staff was able to pull off a visit from Bowen sometime during the season...

I believe Scruggs said something like he wasn't deciding any time soon; JG said well you understand I have to take a commitment from Frazier if he's ready; Scruggs said I understand but I won't be interested if you do; and JG said I get it, but I can't turn him down if you're not onboard yet.

At bottom, I believe said do what you have to do, but if you accept his comitment, do so knowing I'm out.

That's my belief of what the "difficult conversation" was in words or substance. I have less than zero inside info. Just my belief. I think most disagree because self-awareness is not our fanbase's strength.

I think your starting to split hairs here. Some have insinuated we wanted Frazier more, but I think most would generally agree that we took Frazier because he was ready to pop & Scruggs wasn't. I've seen nothing to suggest that Scruggs wasn't interested at that point & the quote sounds like Illinois told him they no longer had a scholarship available. I think this is as simple as we made a decision that Frazier in the hand was worth more than Scruggs in the bush. Maybe we also felt good about the chances of a 2018 pg, but even without that, I don't think it is over the top to think we made an opportunity cost decision to take Frazier & once we made that decision we really didn't have room for another pg/cg in 2017.
I'm also with ZPfled, I just don't see any reason why Scruggs AAU coach would lie on this one, it seems it usually happens the other way where the school covers the kid.
It just doesn't seem that much of a homer for us to give up on a kid that most think is a long shot, to sign a kid that the staff wants & he is ready to commit...the opportunity cost of doing that was we couldn't afford to play the game with Scruggs anymore, which if you thought he was a long shot to begin with isn't that much...but in the end we still tell Scruggs we moved on & his scholarship is gone.

“(The Illinois coaching staff) was awesome in letting us know the situation,” Peterson said. “It was a tough conversation but a good one.”

You never know, Bowen is JCL's brother's (Isaiah) roommate @ LaLu. ICL just might come to C/U to see his brother play.:)

I find the Scrugg's story fascinating. Izzo was out to Prolific Prep yesterday to see Gary Trent, Jr, but no mention of seeing Scruggs at all. Scruggs had an OV scheduled to MSU that was "abruptly" canceled due to a conflict and has not been re-scheduled. In the meantime, Scruggs has made the sudden departure from Southport (after 2 weeks of school) to diploma mill Pro-Prep. Also, Louisville has emerged as an interested party. My guess is Scruggs' recruitment started to take on a strange smell and Groce wanted no further part of it. Just a guess.

Nope. This is the reason why.

And now it's a Mich St run, including Meyer, for J Jackson. Purdue boards are probably imploding. I'm wondering when Bowen is going to commit. For a guy who's been considered a lock for Izzo all summer, he's taking his time.

Man.... Msu has been recruiting really well the last couple of seasons.

Yeah, if they pull Jaren Jackson and Tugs Bowen that's another top-5 class in the making. Izzo is demolishing life on the recruiting trail.

Any buzz about Abu Kigab lately?

I'm pretty sure we're not arguing at all, and if we are, it's over word choice:)

Nope, we are actually not, and I agree that Scruggs and Frazier together was not happening.

I feel like there's a reason why Izzo wasn't involved in this recruitment...

Got to give credit where credit is due!

Question? Who would you rather have.. Kiir or Epperson??

Kiir for me would be more what we need but if no Wilkes I would love to get both Kiir and Epp

Kiir is more and on the block player, where Epp is more like Finke

With them both being bigs, you take the better player if given a choice. Epperson is by far the better between the two and has less red flags when it comes to eligibility. Kiir is a great hightlight reel player but there's a reason why he's ranked so low. He has a high ceiling but a pretty low one as well.

well I disagree with you on that, one is ranked the #14 and one #15 as far as centers one is an inside/out player one an outside/in so I would think you go for the one who fits what you need more. All that said I wouldn't pass on either one I just feel Kiir is more the type player we need. Again all that said I would take who ever you can get and hope to get both would really set us up nice for a few years. I just don't want us looking for 5th year guys when we can find FR to be here more then a year

I'm not so sure Epperson is by far the better player.

Eh? Not gonna pick this apart, but there are a lot of incorrect or unknown assertions here.

You take either one and be thankful for it. Two is too much to hope for. FWIW, I'd take both in a heartbeat, scholly situation in '18 be damned.

Hopefully we will now concentrate on trying to get both. Do we really need Kigab? What is he ranked?

We need whoever is willing to buy into this team and will fully commit to winning as an Illini. Trent Frazier is a good, recent example of who is needed.
