Michael O'Brien ‏@michaelsobrien 2m2 minutes ago Breaking from @joehoopsreport: East St. Louis star Jeremiah Tilmon won’t sign with #Illinois tomorrow, may not ever.

Most intriguing story: Jeremiah Tilmon wavering
The coveted East St. Louis big man was coach John Groce’s top target from the moment the 6-10 Tilmon entered high school. The tireless recruiting efforts paid off as Illinois received a commitment from the state’s No. 1 prospect in July. Now Illinois and its fans wait for Tilmon, a top 25 talent nationally, to sign his letter of intent.
It’s been confirmed he will not sign his letter-of-intent with the Illini on Wednesday, and there are now serious questions as to whether he will sign with Illinois at all.

I'm so frustrated right now. I'm truly at a loss for words at how unbelievably unlucky we are as Illini fans. It's also quite amazing how much of an impact one recruit can make on the future of your team.

Per Evan Daniels twitter

Five-star big man Jeremiah Tilmon told Scout that he doesn't plan to sign with Illinois during the signing period.

I know these kids are 17 and 18, but my goodness, how can they have such little integrity? It's baffling to me, it really is.

It also reflects how sleazy Travis Ford is...

SLU? Travis Ford?

If Tilmon doesn't sign, and we don't make the dance, that is it for the Groce era. I like him, but I don't know how patient Whitman can be.

I think Travis Ford is about as dirty as you can get. No way he is that desirable as a coach.

It just shows what college basketball (and football) has become. Kids have no respect for the coaches who recruit them. Fans have no respect for their own coaches (if the kid screws the coach over, it's the coach's fault...that's B.S. If a sleezy coach steals a recruit away, he's a hero). Players can't give a coach or future teammates enough respect to give them a heads up they aren't fully committed until the last second...kind of like IDKWTI. I think I'm going to back out of following this stuff so much. It's more bad than good. I do enjoy the games. It might be better to do like when I was a kid and just watch the games. Good lord.

It's amazing to me how a guy could fail in a power conference then go to a midmajor and pull this off. Some how they convinced Goodwin and like it's been speculated for awhile now Tillman looks to be headed there too. This is ridiculous and unfortunate for us. Groce must of did a real number on these high profile recruits to make them want to run and hide at St. Louis university.

I don't really understand the blame being placed on Groce because a couple kids flip last minutes for reasons we all know are obvious.

If you want to blame Groce for the results on the court, I get that. But he has been recruiting Tilmon since he was in what 8th grade? Not much else the guy can do when Travis Ford comes through with the deep pockets.

New plan: get SLU in a recruiting war with Auburn and have Pearl make a few phone calls.

Disagree, Groce is in charge of the Illinois program. It's his job to identify the right kids for his program and get them to sign. He hasn't done that. Not to mention his on the court record is less than acceptable.

So Groce should not have recruited Tilmon and also had the foresight that SLU's head basketball coach would be fired and then that coach would hire an area assistant from another basketball program that would suddenly cause one of the biggest shifts in recruiting and despite not being in a power 5 conference, would land 4 and 5 star players and may even cause the decommitment of such players? Yeah I can see how that's Groce's fault. Snider is Groce's fault, too. If he could have told Jaquan Lyle to stay at Louisville, Snider would be an Illini. I can't believe he didn't know that was coming either.

If any of you have followed Ben Simmons lately you know that $ being put on the table for a recruit should not be surprising.
