really should just log off and turn back in at one tomorrow to avoid the roller coaster . . . but what fun would that be.:shield:

I trust our guys that likely know who is holding signed paper right now.

I'd be right there with you if it weren't for the Quentin Snider switcheroo. It's one thing to get jilted in a hat ceremony or before signing day, i.e., IDKWTI, but Snider sneaking a signed NLI to Louisville while Coach Groce sat patiently at the fax machine was the most astonishing nut punch I've ever seen.

Illinois recruiting itself should be its own 30 for 30
That's Illinois sports in general, really. Every single time we get close to breaking through, to the pinnacle, we get knocked back down. Nut punched. So many times... Austin Peay, Rose Bowl vs UCLA, Nick Anderson getting injured in 89, Bruce Pearl, Mike White leaving, Mackovic leaving, Ron Guenther getting hired, 2000 Michigan game, Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, Elite Eight versus KU, 05 NC game versus a UNC team using ineligible players (and crappy refs), Charlie Villanueva, Shaun Livingston, IDKWTI, Chet breaking his hand right before the Tourney, 08 Rose Bowl, Fresno St game, Derrick Rose, DJax, Brunson, Jawun Evans, Illijah, Quentin Snider, Cliffmas, Illini golf having to play Oregon on their home course, the entire Beckman regime, women's BBall scandal, the Miami Tourney game, I could go on... and now maybe this? I just want us to have our Cubs moment sometime within my lifetime.

Does this sound accurate?

Pros- Jkat who predicted yesterday that Tilmon would sign LOI believes Illinois
Frank Cusamano thinks Illinois and he is pretty good at St. Louis recruiting
He has been committed for months and never "decommitted"
Groce moved press conference which allows him to talk about Tilmon if signed LOI
No leaks of Tilmon signing elsewhere (which i think would more likely hear somthing if he flipped than if he stayed committed to Illinois)

Cons: We are Illinois
a crystal ball change
Jerry Meyer doesn't feel good about Illinois
Why have an announcement for Illinois if you are already committed to Illinois?

Am i missing anything?

I was hitting depression then you put me full boat depressed. I would love for our Cubs moment. That moment brought me to tears and wife having to console me. All those years and the second won and went to World Series I felt my gpa and lost it. Really hope for that moment with the Illini more and more

Impressive recall of the tragic events of Illini sports.
Nice job.

If Tilmon picks SLU or another team, major disrespect to Illinois and coach Groce.

Yeah, that one was just crazy. Set the program back a bit too as we thought we had our lead guard. This would be similar, but at least with this there would be a little smoke first. With Snider there was nothing and then BOOM.

ADD:

3 point loss in 1984 Elite 8 vs. Kentucky on their home court --- with superstar Soph Efrem Winters spraining his ankle in Sweet 16 game and playing at 70%. (Dickie Beal game....)

And for us oldsters, none of those match the ultimate self-imposed nutpunch we gave ourselves in 1967, which has often been said to have affected Illinois right down to today. Looking back on it, it's hard to believe what happened and the repercussions that echoed for decades.
Imagine today an assistant athletic director taking a bunch of incriminating files to the university president, and the university president taking them to the Big Ten. And the Big Ten, even though it knew other schools were doing the same or worse, gutting the basketball and football programs with the threat of being tossed out of the conference if we didn't do it.
Talk about nutpunches. It's in our DNA.
