For me personally because I was there, it's Kiwane Garris missing three free throws in OT against mizzery......ugh. :tsk:

That's Illinois sports in general, really. Every single time we get close to breaking through, to the pinnacle, we get knocked back down. Nut punched. So many times... Austin Peay, Rose Bowl vs UCLA, Nick Anderson getting injured in 89, Bruce Pearl, Mike White leaving, Mackovic leaving, Ron Guenther getting hired, 2000 Michigan game, Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, Elite Eight versus KU, 05 NC game versus a UNC team using ineligible players (and crappy refs), Charlie Villanueva, Shaun Livingston, IDKWTI, Chet breaking his hand right before the Tourney, 08 Rose Bowl, Fresno St game, Derrick Rose, DJax, Brunson, Jawun Evans, Illijah, Quentin Snider, Cliffmas, Illini golf having to play Oregon on their home course, the entire Beckman regime, women's BBall scandal, the Miami Tourney game, I could go on... and now maybe this? I just want us to have our Cubs moment sometime within my lifetime.

Easy Poo, observe your breathing,

Long calm breaths, in and out, in and out....

OK - too many signs pointing to YES. I just listened to the Tay and J podcast....they were 95% certain of good news on Thursday. This announcement has to go our way!

Plus.......Piper. Cusamano. Ole Ward.

It's not often talked about but I was at the ncaa tourney game in Columbus in 06 when we lost to va tech. Man that was a brutal loss. Double digit lead most the game and we pull such a typical Illinois and slow the game down on offense way to early and don't score for like seven minutes. Then we needed randle or mcbride or warren carter to step up down the stretch and act like seniors and they just couldn't do it. We win that game we get southern Illinois in the round of 32 and a very winnable game. Just a terrible loss to witness firsthand.

Oh God what have I done. So many bad memories being drug up from the depths. Memories I had pushed waaaay down under long ago and thought were blocked forever. :(

Lived through all those you mention and going back further. But one doesn't have to go far back for the perfect example of Illini futility, at least in hoops (what can I say, FB is is in a class by itself). I forget the opponent and am too lazy to look it up, but it was a quality team last year (was it Villy?), we were down by one or two at the end with the ball and the clock down to last few seconds. Malcolm drives left side of hoop and misses a wide open layup, Finke crashes the boards and clanks an easy put back dunk off the rim and all the way out to the arc, where it lands in the hands of a wide open Illini (forget who) who shoots a trey as the buzzer goes off, for a miss, and a loss. That play epitomized every frustration we've shared over the decades in BB for me, at least the on-court ones. Never let so many consecutive F-bombs go off in my life. An Illini national BB title is all that's left for me, if I can just live another hundred years.

In fact go to 2:20 and you can relive that typical Illini moment.

Maybe Tilmon got a little payback on Goodwin. Only a guess based off of the recent tweets by Goodwin.

I am so conflicted here. Normally, if you hear the national reporters saying one thing, and message board "insiders" saying another thing... local beat reporters are fairly quiet and you can almost 100% trust the national reporters over the "insiders".

Here, we have both message board "insiders" and local beat reporters talking positively, while national reporters are coming off fairly negative. I almost always take the stock of the national guys more seriously than the "insiders", but I am not sure what to make of "insiders" + local beat reporters vs. national reporters.

Has me feeling more optimistic than usual in these matters, but still not comfortable...
