Matt Rhule to Baylor.

Kudos to Mack Rhoades and Baylor for thinking outside the box here. I don't disagree this doesn't appear to be a fit, but the reality is Baylor has some rebuilding/restructuring to do and Rhule fits that bill. They wanted to go outside the circle and ended up going way outside. From a PR standpoint, this is what Baylor needed to do.
This came out of left field as reports surfaced that Arkansas State head coach Blake Anderson (began his playing career at Baylor) was in negotiations to take over....all of a sudden, Rhule is hired.
It will certainly be interesting to see what Rhule does with his coaching staff. He has two guys at Temple on the defensive side of the ball that are elite level recruiters but one is from Pennsylvania and the other is from New Jersey and that is where they recruit well. He certainly will have to have some Texas flavor on this coaching staff.
Phil Snow is his DC and is as respected as anybody (not to mention has had one of the best defenses in the country in the last two seasons), expect him to follow.
Willie Taggart will be new head coach at Oregon. Methodically has won and recruited extremely well at both Western Kentucky and South Florida. Played and worked for Harbaugh's at both Western Kentucky and Stanford. Oregon recruits nationally so this is why you never saw a big emphasis on a west coast guy.
USF job now open, Charlie Strong is early favorite and makes a ton of sense....that's if he wants the job. Lane Kiffin has been mentioned; however, I think he'll hold out for a power 5 gig, especially if he goes to LSU and succeeds in turning that offense around. I would not rule out PJ Fleck for this one as well...it is a school with a ton of potential and Fleck recruited Florida hard while at Rutgers. Still probably a long shot that Fleck gets involved. Mario Cristobal could be involved here as well.

Fleck said no to Cincy, that he only wanted a P5 job so dont imagine him going to USF for same reason.
Our 2 hardest non-con games next year both switched coaches. Leaves room for a bit of optimism.

Oregon just straight up said "thanks but no thanks" to him without an interview.
People are on to what a charlatan that guy is.
That would be perfect for our game next year because his first move will be to kick half of their good players off the team.

Haha, your hate for Fleck is real! From what I have seen, Oregon wanted Fleck to interview last week and he said no. They did interviews in New York over the weekend and Fleck wasn't willing to interview then; therefore, they found their guy and didn't need to interview Fleck this week. I am certain that Oregon was interested in Fleck, but Fleck did not show any urgency to "want" the job.
With Temple becoming open, they have to go all in on Joe Moorhead. He already proved he can win as head coach at Fordham and did as good of job with Penn State's offense as there was in the country this year.
I dunno man. You don't just no thanks to Phil Knight and Nike football U.
Basketball I can see not tons of interest from hot up and comers but Oregon football is a plum spot.
I'm sorry but Fleck's style (off the field, not necessarily on it) won't work at a high major program. He's a rah-rah guy. Serious players and serious fans at those universities will laugh him out the door the second he shows up to a pep rally with an oar.
He's perfect for little brother schools who want attention. He wouldn't know what to do at a big school when the attention is substituted for expectations.

All in all the carousel did not greatly affect us. Houston has interviewed 3 guys with Oklahoma's Lincoln Riley being considered the front runner. Indiana didn't make a big change and while Purdue upgraded with Brohm, we knew they were going to upgrade and Brohm is no super star that would really tip things greatly in their favor (although he will improve them in my opinion).
Jim Harbaugh is as big of a "rah rah" guy as you'll find....he doesn't seem to get laughed at by the Michigan people nor will you probably ever see them even open the door for him to leave.
Sure PJ Fleck may not be a fit everywhere, but what I have always argued is that at a place like Illinois or Purdue you need to have someone that has a "X factor" to them. Someone who can ignite a program and give it a direction and purpose. He can flat out recruit...he has put together recruiting classes at WMU that we would be excited about (if Beckman/Cubit were still coaching us).
Some coaches have that "X factor" in their scheme (Leach/Briles), some have it in their process (MacIntyre/Dantonio/Petersen/Stoops), some have it off the field in recruiting/program building (Harbaugh/Swinney). The best coaches have all the facets (Saban/Meyer).
I believe you either have the salesmen/program building side to you or you don't, you can develop the scheme and process. Fleck is young, is a tremendous salesman (recruiter), and has proven the ability to build a program culture and win.
Fleck has the makings of a coach with all the necessary skills to be great (not willing to say he will be yet though). I do understand where his antics can sometimes rub people the wrong way, but I compare him to have that Harbaugh effect in the fact that you really hate him....unless he is your coach.
Looks like the Lane Train's next stop will be in Houston
I'm going to give you a Lee Corso "not so fast my friend" on this one.
...although I really really think Lane Kiffin is a tremendous hire for any school.
