Going back to Cal and Dykes. It was an odd hire from the get go. You have to fit coach and culture together. Dykes as a Texan with his crazy passing offense didn't fit Cal. Like Rodriguez didn't fit scUM, Callahan didn't fit Nebraska and so many others. Cal has big money problems and may drop athletics all together, but Dykes/Cal was never the right match. I'll relate it to us as well. Leach would have been a difficult fit for us and Cubit's offense failed here just as it did at WMU.

Kind of ironic that Leach got in trouble for punishing injured kids, and we got Beckman.

WMU hires Lester to replace Fleck

I can now say a guy I had as a substitute teach in high school is now the head coach of a D1 football team.

Where did you hear Cal may drop athletics all together? That is a front page ESPN scope if ture!

Cal wouldn't drop athletics altogether, just several non-revenue sports.

Back to the Fleck hire I think Iowa and possibly Wisconsin have the most to lose. Lovie can hold his own, but Ferentz hasn't been a dynamic recruiter and although Chryst has won thus far, he's not a great recruiter either. I'm not especially impressed with Mike Riley either. It will be interesting.

Curt Mallory, yes that Curt Mallory, took the Indiana State job to officially wrap up the the division 1 coaching carousel. Barring any surprises, every job is filled.

It's crazy how much talent Zook had on his coaching staff here at Illinois. 6 who went on to be Head Coaches

Curt Mallory - HC at Indiana State
Jeff Brohm - HC at Purdue
Paul Petrino - HC at Idaho
Mike Shultz - HC at Lamar
Eric Wolford - HC at Youngstown St; now OL coach at South Carolina
Mike Locksley - HC at New Mexico; now an Asst at Alabama

Still has a long way to go to match Mike White's Illinois staff in the early 80s.

Lots of coaching talent. Lots of playing talent. Lots of inconsistency.

he's an easy hire and an easy fire

go 9-3 and he buys himself two more years.

go 5-7 and hes fired after the last game.

its not like OU is going to go out and hire Mack Brown or entice Justin Fuentes to move to Norman at this point in the season.

Lincoln Riley is the no brainer hire at this point in time, but they aren't giving him a 5 year , 20 million dollar deal.

Stoops by the numbers had a great run - but it was the quietest run. Do you think they did not get a lot of ESPN/media attention because they were in the Big XII?
