Am I reading that box score right? We only had 7 total assists? And just one of them from the PG position? :tsk:

Takeaways...

1. Helps a lot when Leron isn't in foul trouble. 15 big boy boards for him..could see him turning into a poor mans Swanigan next year for us

2. Abrams and Hill played so hard. Gotta love their effort tonight.

3. Great bounce back game for Finke, great to see him get some shots to fall. Rare game where him, Abrams, Hill and Black were in rhythm

4. Thorne struggled with the ball, but got some good rebounds and didn't completely suck defensively compared to what some of what you guys said.

5. Tate had a really nice game for him, would have liked him to make that mid range shot..disappointed he shot it with that little leg kick.

6. DJW really played a nice game for the minutes he got, turned it on defensively..will likely need him AND Kipper against Indiana.

7. Jordan just isn't their yet, needs to slow down and let the game come to him. Hopefully it clicks for him next year, if not he might never get his chance while he's here..

8. Sloppy possessions for the middle part of the second half, but JCL, Abrams and Finke sunk some huge baskets late from three and the line.

9. Good to get our first win, Lyle is a hell of a player when he wants to be, will be a POY candidate next year I'm guessing.

10. Bring our best effort in Bloomington on saturday. Not expecting a win but play like we did in the first half and hopefully keep it under 15.

Overall, not a bad performance, great bounce back, John had them ready. ILL!

We beat osu and there's 3 pages of postings. We lose to maryland and get 9 Pages. Typical

We barely slipped by OSU at home in a game where we played relatively well vs. getting destroyed at Maryland. Which did you think would solicit a more emotional response?

Morgan was awful?

I thought so. Short-arming a ton of shots. Taking rushed shots. poor passing and ball handling leading to a couple of bad turnovers. But awful is too strong, he made some good plays here and there as well, the follow-tip in. But it was a mediocre game compared to what he is capable of. He can do more, make those shots, make better passes and hold on to more rebounds. I really like the kid.

So he should make all of his shots and grab all the rebounds? Got it.

According to ESPN app, we were a 1 point underdog, in other words a toss up. It was a tough, hard-fought win. They are 1-1. Should be happy!

Nobody has their A game every night. Mav competed hard against a physical front line. I was happy to see he went back up on a put back and score, something the Illini struggles with.

Even though JCL wasn't scoring in bunches, he was a key player. He played good D, he hit a few clutch baskets, and he was an effective decoy to create opportunities for others.

In case some were worrying about Kahn's relationship, he was sitting court side and talked to Josh all during halftime.

Sorry, tried to attach pic of Josh and Khan talking at halftime. Have it on cell, but can't get it attached.

I thought a key for us this year to make a jump was for JCL to be more a 1. I don't see this happening this year, but I don't see why Malcolm can't see more minutes at the SG position and bring DJW at the wing. We get so much longer with those two in the line up to go along with Black/Finke and Mav/Thorne.

DJW doesn't take bad shots, his length allows him to feed the post. His defense is much needed against the more athletic teams.

Yeah, I don't get that comment, Mav had 11 on 4-10 shooting. His defense was pretty good.

4-10 shooting for a big is not a good stat line. He kept trying to go to that shot over his right shoulder but the defender gave him no space and Mav just flailed some shots up there. Luckily got bailed out by an official on one. His and our defense is never pretty good.

Good win. Still don't understand why TJL doesn't at least get 5-10 minutes. Doesn't make sense to me.
Boy, I'm with you on that one. Maryland starts 3 Freshmen. Yet, we're saying that have a 4-star Freshman who's shooting 70% from the field and is still not capable of beating out Tate and spelling Tracy for 6 minutes a game?

Really, did you read the stat line for their big's? And he's only 1 shot off from shooting 50%. I wouldn't characterize his play as awful. Not up to par maybe.

If it is strictly defensive issues keeping him off the floor, I can't square that with Finke's minutes and his matador defense.
