I was sincerely hoping this game would signal the continuance of a turning point having taken place against scUM. Just losing by less isn't acceptable. I live in Maryland; extra painful.

Groce is a very poor coach. He doesn't ever make any in game adjustments. Doesn't know how to manage the clock. We need to put the money out for a GOOD coach!!!

Mav had several jumpers but I'll concede "all game" wasn't correct. 2nd half definitely.

the buckets i saw from him were all in the post or layups......he missed his jumpers tonight from what i saw...i missed his first bucket though
and second half he had the O board put back and and an and 1 layup.......so not sure what youre talking about there either

Other than that black and finke both scored on pick and roll layups with TJL in teh second half

Either way, id agree with us needing more in the paint

How about he play TJL,Nichols,DJW,Black, and Morgan and send a message either gets your heads together or be ready to come and sit next to me ,Tate ,and Mike

Both Tejon and Kipper were abysmal defensively too.

Not a bad loss...but missed a chance at a good win.

If you look at it from the perspective of a single game, sure. But, for a team that is trying to build a tournament resume, this loss looms large.

Illinois will likely lose to Purdue, meaning that they will be 2-4 in the conference heading into Michigan. That becomes a must-win. And, while the schedule looks easier after Purdue game, all the parity in the league this year ensures that you cannot overlook any team (except probably Rutgers, who we only play once). You have to take wins where you can get them, and not give up anything when you have a chance to win.

That second half reeked of low BB IQ, following a really poor decision by Groce to end the first half. This wasn't about Maryland playing better defense, this was about poor coaching and poor shot selection.

Yes we were outcoached, but it WAS about Maryland playing better D also.

I don't think even 9-9 would do it, barring a magical run in the BIG Tourney. We just don't have the reputation it would take to overcome a 50-50 conference record. Could be wrong, obviously, but I agree that I don't see even 9-9 at any rate.

UGH.

We might be favored in just 4-5 more B1G games this year.

That's what I'm saying. There's legitimate flashes worthy of excitement that sadly never last.

I honestly had us only winning 2 of our first 7 and thought things got much easier the final half of the schedule. However, I don't think any night is guaranteed L and any night is a for sure W.

With the streaky shooters we have, we're going to win some we shouldn't and lose some we shouldn't, everyone knew this back in October, just get into the midst of the schedule and people seem to think it comes down to lack of adjustments.

Both Tejon and Kipper were abysmal defensively too.

They are freshmen and its not about just the defense its about the energy and even basic execution .

How can a team with supposedly so much experience always have trouble adjusting to even the most basic of adjustments such a post double team or a even fullcourt pressure ?

I honestly dont think Hill and Tracy played that hard they sure as heck didnt play like guys who have 4 more games left in front of the home crowd .

This was more shooting than coaching. Those shots were going in during the first half. Having said that, TA is the new Tate as far as 4 on 5 goes. Just because he's a freshman does not mean TJL should be sitting the last 4 minutes, which is on the coaches.

Our shooting was bad. In the last part of the game Coleman/Lands had several wide open looks & wasn't close until he rimmed one in when the game was over.

You can keep looking at it in the macro, but the micro matters too, and tonight we got killed because Turgeon adjusted at halftime and whether we did or not, we were entirely uneffective in the 2nd.

Also, what wins do we have over a team we shouldn't this year?

Come up with an offense that doesn't rely almost exclusively on jump shots.

While I agree with this in theory, you have to have the players to do it. And the easiest way to do it is to have quick guards that can create off the bounce. Opens the floor for everyone. And we flat out don't have a player like that. Lucas could be but he looked very passive today. In my opinion, that is the #1 reason our offense stalls out consistently. We don't have a player that break people down off the bounce

Yep, gotta sit the players that don't play well. Hill, Abrams, and Jcl should sit next game. Not sure how Groce didn't think of this. /sarcasm

Why would sit them next game ? Why not sit them in the game they are playing poorly in ? There doesn't seem to accountability on this team for the certain guys and it catches up to us every single time.

Blowing a 10 point lead and not scoring for 8 mins in the second half isn't a bad loss?

If I was an AD assessing a coaching job at the end of the season, this would stick out.

This game pains me deeply as a fan.

At Home up by 5 at half-everything working we had this game. Then the wheels came off with no explanation as to why.

I see unbridled talent on this team which is why this loss stings.

I agree, and tonight shows why Groce needs that dynamic PG that he hasn't been able to land. Because without one, his offense doesn't generate anything but.....jump shots. Lucas finding Finke with a great pass is how we get layups these days. Some off putbacks. Some with Mav's post game, but MD took that away with the double team.
