Very disappointing to whip a team two weeks and then look like a diff team when play again. Time for change.

We are again at a point where the season could now spiral out of control

There was a time, not is distant past, but before the PC crowd, that teams were taught to hustle & give their all until the final buzzer.

With 26 seconds, it's pretty much the standard nationally to let the other team dribble it out when the game is out of reach. Before the shot clock is turned off, go hard, but at that point down double digits, it's over. No point fouling and such.

That's the last game I make any particular effort to watch until the BTT tournament, when I'm sure we'll lose to Nebraska or Penn State by 14 on Wednesday. Or maybe if we catch lightning in a bottle, we'll beat Rutgers on Wednesday, only to get savaged by a .500 team on Thursday.

See you all next year.

This was a Michigan team that could have been beat today. But when you open the game giving up 2 straight layups and 3 open looks from 3 pt it was pretty clear that we weren't ready to play. Even if Michigan missed the open looks. How many points in the paint did we give up today. Mav just seems to not even care at the defensive end. So many times no one screen out their man. At all.

It's tough to figure out what is going on. Leron is not the same player he was. Tracy is not the same. Hill is not the same. (Is Macolm hurt? Didn't seem to move the same today.). JCL hardly shot the ball.

Bottom line is we never even gave them a decent run. :deadhorse:

A sad effort for what was a must win situation.

I don't get to watch all the game since I work evenings so it always blows my mind how awful this team is defensively both individually but especially in terms of rotations.

First play of the game Irvin drove on Hill baseline and Mav kind of rotated into help postion, Irvin put on a hesitation move and Mav just wandered away back to his man which led to an easy reverse layup for Irvin.

Just an example and we all know Mav is not a good defender but that type of lack of awareness and positional play is very typical of most of this roster.

Now contrast that with Nichols who I was very impressed with his positioning even when he was off the ball. He moves very well with his man and is really good at navigating through screen. In position to make plays. Hes about the only one on the roster that does it with consistency. Great defensive footwork.

Yeah they are, they're just slow and unathletic cant keep anyone in front of them. It is what it is.

Agree mostly. But I credit our 2 freshman, who outplay the older guys on that end of the floor, and it's becoming clearer and clearer with each game. It seemed the only time Lucas's guy scored was off a jump shot with a hand in his face.

The turnovers were painful. A couple that would have gone for immediate points or fouls. We had a couple defensive possessions where I said wtf cause it was bad. But more than usual when I said wtf cause I thought we defended well and Michigan hit a ridiculous shot. And then the droughts we go through offensively, missing even when we get good shots. It just hurts.

What you and I call fighting are different. Wake me up when we're worth watching again.

Sadly agree. In a game we desperately needed, we were completely outworked on both ends of the court. I saw a lot of quit out there, particularly by our veteran "leadership".

Here's the game recap for me... Get home at about 4... Start the game from my DVR...

Mich possession: uncontested layup (2-0)
Ill possession: tough jump hook by Mav rolls in (2-2)
Mich possession: UNCONTESTED LAYUP!!! (4-2)
Ill possession: step back long 2 by Tracy misses (4-2)
Me: delete recording, check final score online, slam a beer

Ugh... I used to watch every second of Illini games, now I forget they're playing half the time

This team has no style of play and because they have nothing to hang their head on when thing dont go right what can they cling to to try and right the ship ?

This is bad and not because they are losing but because this is John Groce's product .It is his system good or bad and what we see after 5 season is nothing ... no offensive or defensive philosophies being displayed at all. These upperclassmen and how they play are a direct representation of Groce and his philosophies.

Its sad because Groce is a great guy but this is his system and by all accounts its trash .

We are watching horribly bad basketball. JCL in sophomore slump. DJW and AJ never make the sophomore jump. Not sure AJ ever will, tries hard but is just bad in game situations. TA is killing us. No athletic basketball players on the roster. A head coach (who was plan D for an incompetent AD) has lost his team. So I have absolutely no reason to believe JG has the ability or coaching staff to turn this thing around. After watching yet another debacle I truly believe we will finish under .500 and not even sniff the NIT.

I think Te'Jon's comments about the rotation (start at around 2:20) are pretty big. He comments on nobody knowing what the rotation is going to be in any game, feels like that has to make it incredibly hard to get in a rhythm.

9 assists to 17 turnovers for us against the worst defensive team in the BIG is sooo bad. Combine that with another blistering 16% from 3 performance and I can't believe we didn't lose by 30 points.

Thank you Dustin Ford

Ugh this is tough. Couldn't watch the game but I thought we'd at least beat a team we beat by 16. Or be more competetive.

Whenever you have a case where things just don't seem right but you can't put your finger on it, it's almost always poor coaching.

Watched the game on DVR even though I knew the outcome. I want to have something to be positive and optimistic about but there just isn't.

Our guys aren't great individually or as a team. If it was just 5 on 5 in a gym, call your own fouls, and no coaches.....we'd still be a bottom 3rd in the B1G team if the minutes were still distributed like they are....our coaching doesn't enhance anything, so that's where we stay.

The are 30 and 40 year olds in pick up games around the country that run better offense that what we see...and who have a better concepts on defense.

Unfortunately Hill is like when Bill Buckner won a batting title for the Cubs.

I will say this, they should just press and double all the time....they give up lay ups in the half court anyway....maybe they will force a couple turnovers.

Lastly...TJL is the only reason I want to watch a second of the rest of the season.
