Why is Jerry Colangelo's advice so heavily regarded when it comes to assessing college coaching? I know he is well connected in NBA and Olympic team circles but college is a different kind of animal and I'm puzzled as to why paying Monty 4 mil plus is a sound idea. Can someone enlighten me?

Totally agree

Who has good reason beyond money?

Keatts- Giant step up

Martin- Coming Home

Marshall- Sick of mid-major treatment

Musselman- Next step on ladder

Capel- Best chance to prove he can handle Duke when time comes

Miller - Time to go B1G
Bennett - Chance to dominate one of the top 2 conferences in BBall, and get back to the Midwest.

It's been at least somewhat disputed that he ever was offered the job.

I was reading your list, nodding my head in agreement, and then I came to Ray Harper. Ray Harper? Seriously? Who is that? So, I went and looked. Then I came back to your board name. Oh !! Ray Harper! OK

OK for you that is. He'll probably come in a bit lower on most lists

Basically, what I get out of this thread so far is:

(1) No coach has actually been offered
(2) Everyone assumes Whitman has $4-5MM to work with because of a tweet
(3) A lot of coaches would make people happy: Miller, Bennett, Drew (2x), Marshall, Keatts, Buzz, Musselman
(4) Cuonzo Martin wants the job but would be seen as a "missed our top guys" hire
(5) Illinois may or may not be a top 20 job in the country
(6) People on this board put a lot of stock in GIFs

Anything I forgot from the last 66 pages?

Personally, I would add Archie Miller to the top 3, no idea what order, that is JW's call. Who can you get along with. Then, I would add Cuonzo with Keatts. I am not sure who would be better for the University. From what I have read, this is Cuonzo's dream job! That should count for something.

Pretty much got it covered, though GIFs should be either #1 or #2.

(2) Read somewhere that JW might have 25Million or more to work with.
(5) We have premier facilities in a premier conference, tons of nearby potential recruits for the "right recruiter", some history, and again a boatload of money for the right candidate. Would personally say we are easily a top 20 job for the right coach.

To me, getting the ability to fully tap into Chicago is the key. Need a guy who will get this done.

I got the same thing and only read every 6th page.

No clue who will be running the program by this time next week, tonight I had fun at the Farm watching Mr. Walker coach the current team. The schemes may have been close to the same but the coaching was not. Ford sat the entire game, it was very clear who was in charge. SO in the interim, great job by Walker tonight.

BTW, I was listening to the local radio here today in Charlotte and they were talking about NC State's coaching search. The two names that came up first were Archie Miller and Kevin Keatts. Seems Illinois and NC State could be going after the same guy(s).

My updated list FWIW

1. Archie Miller

2. Keatts

3. Cuonzo/Capel

4. Musselman- Still bothered by shirtless ordeal, but love his coaching chops

5. Kenny Payne- New entrant on my board. Obviously recruiting is the draw here, but one of those coach Cal Assistants is going to hit it big
I like this list with Keatts and musselman as the upside guys and Cuonzo and Capel the high floor types. For some reason I think Cuonzo recruiting at Illinois would be gaudy...

I was in Charlotte this morning after being stranded by the airlines overnight. I was amused to hear them talking about how wonderful it would be to have a Duke-UNC final.

I was just looking up coaches salaries and notice that Jay Wright is at 2.47m
With 4-5m being talked about why has no one been talking about Jay Wright?!
