New rumors flying
1. Richard Pitino is allegedly "in the mix" at #LSU
2. One unknown and unverified source has Hoiberg to #Illinois "done"
"John, we trust you. We'll be fine with whomever you choose... Well, except HIM! JESUS!"
Honestly this just leaves me scared that Whitman is flailing around terrified to not deliver on the massive pile of money he's pushing around.
He worked the donors hard to build this war chest, probably not by rationally explaining to them that $2.2 million a year for Kevin Keatts was likely to be the best, most sensible, highest-upside long-term play for the program. Whitman is a smart guy, he understands that. The bigwig donors might very well not. They paid for headlines.
Here are some likely dumb and unfounded rumors from our pals at @CoachingChanges:
I don't believe either.
I wouldn't discount C Martin from a bad loss in the NIT. If you do a historical review you can probably find bad NIT to some very good coaches. Or you can just look at Self and Coach K and some of their bad NCAA losses.
Can someone give me a good explanation to why it is being spoken like a fact that Martin would keep our current class together?

Ludicrous.
Some rumors of Steve Prohm though. That I could believe.
Unlike the coaches mentioned, Martin has ever won anything in his coaching career. And he has the talent.
Translation: If I can't convince Bennett, Miller or Marshall for $4.5M then I'm gonna grab Keatts for $2.5M and guess what? The results with Keatts could actually be better than the $4.5M guys.
I know he was born in Champaign but does he even want to coach?![]()
I'm incredibly impressed with Whitman's ability to keep everything on the DL.
I've also seen him mentioned there and elsewhere for LSU. Not enjoying the ambience of Ames, it seems.
Right now, no matter how good he does in Ames, it feels like he's keeping the seat warm for Fred to come back. Regardless of Fred wanting to come back or not, that's the thoughts I hear from a lot of State fans watching Fred struggle in Chicago. He also might never have a roster as good as what he has had the past 2 years. A chance to take advantage of what he was given and split before the drop off.I've also seen him mentioned there and elsewhere for LSU. Not enjoying the ambience of Ames, it seems.

You get it.

I would be interested in him at Illinois. I would also like my Prohm-to-LSU prediction from the old thread to come true.
Agreed, would people still want Bennett if he loses to Kevin Keatts?

You get it.

I think I'm lost. I appear to be in Sunday School, but I'm looking for the coaching thread.![]()

For whatever reason, he's one of the guys that was under-discussed throughout the course of the season. Had nothing but success, really, but at the same time was more of a "maintainer" at both of his stops.
