Yeah. A maintainer at a damn high, well above the program median level though.

His Iowa State tenure has kinda gone in reverse order of expectations. They were Top 10 preseason last year and didn't really live up to it, though they played better at the end of the season, and the expectations weren't as high this year but again they've just kept improving as the year went along.

They'll be a tough out.

The more I see and learn about Prohm, the more I like the idea. He had some very good success at Murray State and now at ISU. He won his conference every year he was at Murray State and has an overall head coaching record of almost .750. He's never won less than 21 games as a HC. I still think Keatt's potential ceiling is higher, but I like Prohm's potential as well and he could be an underrated pick for JW.

Bonus: Has a hot wife who is from Murray, KY, a relatively short 4 hour drive from C-U. I'm sure she wouldn't at all mind being closer to her fam there.

Of course you still go hard after Miller, Marshall, Bennett, etc. who are more proven but if those don't work out he's on that next tier with Keatts et al.

I am surrounded by a lot of IU fans. Word is a Crean firing is imminent.

Strong Anchorman reference. Deep cut.

I could have used this for Kipper Nichols. Was wrong in my head till he got actual game time.

Wait, how did you pronounce it to yourself?

To further exhibit how 2004 I am, my buddy and I have been calling him Julie Cooper-Nichol, of The OC fame.

And to all you current college students who have never heard of that show, I am still young damnit, leave me alone

Alford to Indiana scares me. Both because he would do well there and our search needs an open UCLA job like a hole in the head.

I have claimed for a long time that he would be the next IU coach. I still think it will happen.

At first I dismissed this notion, but they *did* have a pretty crap trajectory to their season. Started with a thrilling victory over Kansas -- Kansas! -- and progressed steadily downward, ending with an embarrassment in the NIT.

NC State wants Archie and Keatts, Mizzou wants Cuonzo, LSU wants Musselman and Prohm, Indiana may or may not want Marshall and Illinois wants everybody.

It's in a weird spot at the moment. The whole things freezes to a halt tomorrow morning though, for two days at least.

Thanks for the run down. So who is the first domino? Certainly, wouldn't hurt if we were. Especially, if we have the deepest pockets.

I believe I've followed this whole new coach thread so far and I'm in agreement with those that say Archie is the brass ring. Numero Uno. I'm discounting Bennett as a firm no. Marshall has an outstanding track record, but I could see problems with his abrasive nature. If not Archie, I'm already ticketed on the Keatt's train. Is there risk hiring him? Certainly, as with any candidate, but he appears to have the whole package and looks to be ready to take off on a very successful major college coaching career. Might as well be here, no?

Wednesday night O.C. party. I hope there was nothing wrong with about 10 college baseball players drinking some Andre and watching the OC.

Funny as heck, but true. It seems like we decide to change coaches when it is a sellers market.

But I'm not sure Alford jumps at the chance at Indiana. He seems to have settled well at UCLA and is recruiting West Coast (and Indiana) kids well. Sometimes when you find your spot, especially if it is a good spot it is hard to leave. Yes he is an Indiana legend both hs and college, but from a well traveled outsider Indiana isn't as appealing as it once was IMHO. I think one of the most appealing is the resurgence of very good Indiana players.

Hoppe for a quick out from Dayton, The Shockers, and UVA. And it hurts to say, but a deep run from Alford and UCLA. Maybe use Martin as leverage against the top 3 picks if they want to hold out for UCLA opening. Take the 4 or 5 mil now or CM will take the job.

Ugh, that would be a nightmare. I don't think he's a brilliant X's and O's coach, but he's proven he can win with talent over the last decade. His time at Iowa (when he became a laughingstock on B1G message boards) now looks like a guy in his early 30s figuring out how to run a program - just a little too much, too soon. (And, furthermore, he didn't do that badly - made the tourney 3/7 years.) Since leaving Iowa, he's gone 249-96 at New Mexico and UCLA.

Alford is a legend at IU. Between high school and college, he's probably tied with Larry Bird for all-time most legendary player in state history. I would not want to deal with this new, mature, successful version of FBW on the recruiting trail.

Regarding the UCLA opening, I think they'd be targeting Marshall, Archie Miller, Scott Drew, maybe Majerle or Krystkowiak as backup options. Could really throw a wrench into things for us.
