Well, we should learn a lot very quickly. I imagine Keatts will be off the board by Monday at the latest.

Hint to college AD's: UNC-W's Kevin Keatts, win or lose today, is the same very good coach on the rise. An NCAA win not automatic validation

This tweet nails it:

Quote:
Indiana basketball and Nebraska football need to get together sometime and talk about the good old days.
Mike Hlas per Jeremy Werner

My Response:

Huskers hired a couple of the wrong guys and have paid the price for it for years. Now they've got the right guy and are turning it around. Doesn't that SOUND FAMILIAR?

So yesterday Cuonzo was employed by Cal and the majority of people did not like him as a top option at Illinois. Last night Miznoz signs him >>>>> PANIC

Yesterday the majority of people assumed Crean would be fired. Today Indiana makes it official >>>>> PANIC

Dear lord. For a fanbase that has been through more than our fair share of coaching searches, you would think people would at least somewhat understand what's going on.

My 2 cents:
I think Cuonzo really wanted the Illini job. I think UI had some initial interest, but no offer and wanted to gage other options. The combination of the huge money, Porters, and Illinois slowplaying made him choose Miznoz.
I was in agreement with many that Indiana was going to fire Crean. I also realize Indiana is a better/higher job than Illinois. I also believe that many of the big names (Marshall/Miller) probably would prefer Indiana to Illinois.

But none of this means that Josh Whitman is doing anything wrong or Illinois is somehow ultimately doomed. He has his list, he's getting feedback, and I'm sure he's ready to offer his top candidate. If he says no, on to the next, and the next, etc.... Ending up with Keatts, or even Jankovich is still an upgrade over where we were a week ago. Calm down and let the process play itself out.

So let's say UVA loses on Saturday does JW hold off until Sunday or Monday to offer Bennett the job? If he turns it down does he then offer big $$ to Marshall? How does this all play out?

I can't imagine how you think you would possibly find a reliable answer to that here.

That's the million dollar question. Just like recruiting athletes for your basketball team, an AD has to have that Spidey sense which allows him to properly gauge the sincerity of a candidate's interest. That's one aspect of his job which John Groce didn't get figured out, in my view. Passing up good Plan B recruits for Plan A guys you have no shot at, forcing you to settle for Plan C guys. Know your reach.

Guys, negotiations are going on behind the scenes, feelers are being put out, agents are being talked to...whatever happens in the Tournament is not going to affect who we hire. It may just affect the timing of the announcement

Personally, I all in for Archie Miller and how could you not like his wife.:)
