I see Lorenzo Romar just got sacked. Thought he was safe? Another P5 job opens up.
This just in, Lincoln didn't make it.

well, the way it's going, Bryce Drew might be available today as well. I had Vandy in my bracket though
Who cares what Holtmann thinks? He thinks it was a bad decision because he is personal friends with Groce. That's great, stick up for your friend. But from a purely objective programmatic standpoint, it was the obviously correct decision. You can be a great guy but if you don't produce winning results, you can't keep a job in this business based only on charisma and morals.
Just throwing this out there for future hind-sight... my list
#1 Monty
#2 Keatts
#3 Bennett
#4 Miller
#5 Marshall
I'd be ecstatic with all five, et al.
Breaking news: Illinois sells State Farm Center to pay for basketball staff.

Probably not going to be Chris Holtman

I hope this isn't in order how could you have Monty who is out and Keatts ahead of the rest. Here is mine.
1. Marshall
2. Bennett
3. Miller

Jamie Dixon - Pittsburg?
My gut is that JW has someone great locked up. Relax

Based on the Lovie hire, I suspect the next coach was locked up before it was announced Groce would not be back. An official announcement has to wait for the official job
posting to expire on the 20th, and for the new coach to conclude this season, assuming he is in the NCAA or NIT.

The point that in his view Groce and Illinois were on the verge of turning a corner has some merit. How high that ceiling was going to be is part of the reason Groce was let go.
There is a risk being taken here though. It was easy to fire Weber because the program was trending downward. Groce had some good players coming in. We lose Tilmon, and it could be rough for a few years. I know many on here say Timon doesn't matter that much. I don't agree.
Personally, I feel that Tilmon matters more from a perception standpoint than an actual on-the-court standpoint. He will be a huge boon to the team on the court if the new coach can keep him, but only likely for a year (or maybe two). I think he means more to us in the long term based on the sense that he can help make Illinois "cool" again with top recruits and it will probably give the coach instant credit for a former player in the NBA. That's more valuable in my opinion.

Keeping Walker, and thus keeping Tilmon, also nets you Mark Smith. Smith may actually be the most important recruit in the class.
