We gotta be rooting for Bruce a lot harder than we used to.

Beyond Brilliant!! ILL AD had to keep this on the complete DL to avoid pre-emptive counter offer by OSU AD.

Coincidence? I think not.

Now we just need Jawun Evans to follow Underwood here :D

Juwan most likely will be in the NBA next year. Several mock drafts have him as a first round pick. No way, he transfers & sits out a year. If, he doesn't go pro this year, he will next.

One thing that seems not to have changed since the last time we did this (MT & JG) is that we don't have blue-blood pull to grab our 1-A "grand slam" candidate(s) at will. But everything after that seems 180 degrees under Josh Whitman. I'll admit I'm not a knowledgeable enough fan to have really "got" the significance of this hire when the rumor mill exploded this morning but seeing the national press's reaction, it's obvious we've turned a corner. Sure, we "whiffed" on (insert name) but this feels fun the way the Lovie hire felt fun. A bit of "how'dya like them apples" for once. I'm stoked.

Love this hire!!!
He had been mentioned as an off the wall low-key Power 5 candidate at NCSU (and I wanted him), but love the fact that Illinois got him.

Great track record at Ok State and SFA. The only thing that hurts now is he had a $3 million dollar buyout at OSU, but I digress...

I'm shocked T. Boone Pickens didn't shell out some money there

You guys. I have literally seen Underwood teach his system once and counters once. His system is not the typical Bruce Weber motion. It is attack to the rim at all times. Almost impossible for a deny defense or a packline to defend. Too many options. Finke's all around skill set fits so well. I hope DJ stays. He will take off.

A boring breakdown of a beautiful offense. Excited to see an offense that spreads the court and uses cutters.

I have run this system for four years. Defenses will be lost. For those wondering, when we played Oregon at the UC a couple years ago, they sliced us with the basic version of this offense. Just the continuity. No wrinkles. Underwood has wrinkles.

Welcome, Coach Underwood, to the University of Illinois!!! What's that, we may even get tired of winning again? I don't think so. :D

Again, welcome onboard! :clappy:

People who didn't know his name (who in turn don't know college basketball) are the ones who are upset. Those who know what they're talking about love it, so I'm on board.

Lol, same ones that whine about only getting 4star recruits instead of 5.

We're about to emerge from a long, dark hallway. This is Self/Guenther in reverse.

Great hire...I watched that Michigan/OSU game....that OSU team can flat out score, run the court. Every basket UM got...OSU ran down the court and matched. The intensity and up tempo game is a ++++. NO more of this pass the ball 10 times before someone takes a shot.

This is just so great. Lovie and Underwood are such a clear commitment to genuine, no-nonsense coaching. Quality.

Glad to hear so many Illini fans more knowledgeable than me like this hire. Because this sure wasn't what I was expecting. Knew underwood was a good coach but had real concerns about his recruiting. Loving reading all this positivity!!!!

Michigan really only won because they were unreal from 3. Okie could score at will by driving to the basket. You have to love that.
