2017 Basketball Transfer Thread

when Groce left and said he left things better then when he got here, he had , Black, Finke, DJ, AJ, JCL, TJL, Kipper, and Trent, DaWill, Pickett and JT all on board, and most would say Smith was as well. So he left things better then Weber left him, what BU has now isn't the same thing as what was here when Groce made the statement

Other than the recruiting class that isn't very impressive relative to what he started with. Weber left Groce with all big ten level players

I think that was kind of Groce's point. he got here and pretty much had one year with players. when he left everyone was able to be here for at least 2 years. lol yeah it didn't seem to work out that way. But still his statement was true to me .

McIntosh is quickly becoming a must-get with the way this roster shaking out. Huge opportunity for PT at the B1G level.

How many recruits/transfers have we said this about now?

The huge PT/B1G card apparently is not working, which is more than a little concerning. When you can't give playing time away, there are problems.

If we miss on McIntosh, Alstork, Agau, and lose JCL to transfer, do we maybe lose at least a little confidence in Underwood and this staff? I know I'm by no means ready to jump off the ledge, but if all of this happens it will be a bit concerning in my opinion.

Underwood just landed Mark Smith. Lol. How quickly they forget.

Not really true. Groce faced a massive rebuild when he got here. After the seniors left the cupboard was pretty much bare:

The 2009 class (seniors) was solid. BP3, DJ JBert and Griff were all solid players. BP3 and DJ borderline all conference.

The 2010 class was empty when Groce came. Meyers. J Rich and C. Head. Monster class on paper, but all 3 were gone for Groce.

2011: Lots of names. Shaw, Ibby, Langford, Egwu, Abrams, Henry. Only 3 of those were BIG level players. Egwu was solid but not spectacular. Abrams was okay before his injuries. Henry could have turned into something here but was inconsistent in his 2 years here. Put up decent numbers on some terrible DePaul teams.

2012: Empty, unless you count Michael Orris, who wound up as a backup PG and NIU.

2013: I believe Hill may have committed by that point, but all others were guys Groce brought in at the 11th hour.

I loved them both, but if Abrams and Egwu are your cornerstones, that is not a tournament team. And we weren't.

Weber left a train wreck, a few seniors, 2 good sophomores in Abrams/Egwu, maybe count Henry but I think he was gone regardless, Iggy, Langford, Shaw that weren't B1G players, & no 2012 freshman class, a positional problem at the 1 & 5. Came in following a train wreck of a season in which our best player left early for the draft.

But regardless, this could be a trying season. Keeping 2 recruits & adding Smith is far better than Groce's first year of an empty freshman class, 5th year still TBD, but the freshman class was the table Weber had set. Groce inherited 1 pg in Abrams, and one true 5 in Egwu, plus Griffey, plus Shaw/Ibby for 1 yr. I think you can easily argue we are in worse shape at big now, but throw in Tilmon & I would say we are in better shape.

I see what you guys are saying, but at the same time we always say winning is the best thing for recruiting. While some of the cupboards were bare, Weber left Groce with the resources to "win now", which in turn bought Groce time to recruit.

From there, he had a ton of whiffs in the recruiting department.

No one has forgotten. But if you notice, we've lost a few players and could use a few more. Getting Smith was outstanding but no one expects anyone to sit around and just be content with that. Having a success is great but at some point you can't have a bunch of misses and just keep pointing to the one success. Heck, if you could do that, Cubs fans would have been a lot happier the last 108 years. "Well we won a championship just this century! Let's just be happy with that."

Yes...sky will have fallen and all future hope lost.

And why it continues to surprise people is beyond me. I get it, we need players, no doubt about it. But the attrition & scholarship situation we're facing shouldn't be a shocker to anyone considering the timing here. It's kind of silly to pin "a bunch of misses" on a staff that was literally put in place a couple months ago.

Yep, I'm pretty sure that is just what Coach Underwood was telling his assistant coaches. Might as well just turn out the lights in SFC . . .

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE???

What do you mean, "You People"?

Seriously, tho, is anyone doubting that we had to make a coaching change? I'm still thrilled with who we got and even if this season turns out rough, I'll be happy with a team that looks well-coached, improves during the season and shows up for every game. That would be a HUGE improvement over the past ten years or so.

Anyone know if there is validity to JCL wanting to transfer to DePaul?
Yes, there is validity. I was tipped off a couple of weeks ago (and refrained from posting here, since it wasn't a public source). Now that it's on Twitter I treat it as fair game. Nothing is final yet.
